I think Eddie learned the hard way. His big immature mouth has burned a lot of bridges for him. Back to the UK he goes
Lol. Let us know when a US fight sells out a 60,000 seat stadium in one day.

If a fighter goes to the UK and wins, they get run out of the country. They are so zenophobic, they'll riot when greatness comes to town and won't fold for their mediocrity. I'm not saying they never had good fighters, greats are from hunger. They have that small town, island mentality. Go there and try to get anything and you'll leave with a nub. Ask Eddy.

I'm not going to argue with your bigger point, but Carl himself will be on here before long to tell you that its was, in fact, 80K fans in Wembley Stadium.

I love how he mentions it in every interview. That’s my fault I need to correct that ASAP.

You know there is a difference. UK does NOT generate the revenue that fights over here do and I believe you know that....but go ahead and stick up for the weak UK boxing scene. Besides Anthony Joshua you guys don't have jack crack going on. There's a reason everyone says I want to go and make it in AMERICA....nobody says "hmmm I think I'm gonna go over to the UK and make the big bucks"...LMAO
It depends how you define bigger. Given the original mention was about boxing being a minority sport in the US, it's reasonable to look at it in terms of how big it is per capita and how big it is in relation to other sports in the country.

The UK has a population of 67m. The US has a population of 331m.

If a fight in the UK generates half the revenue that the same fight generates in the US, it indicates a proportionally smaller interest in the US.

The US does a good job of leveraging big bucks out of the celebs and high rollers who want to have good seats at megafights. I think this says as much about US wealth as it does about the popularity of boxing in general.
The UK does a good job of filling arenas and stadia for not-neccessarily-big fights. Which indicates a greater penetration of the sport into the wider public's awareness and interest.

Both countries have a long and storied part to play in the history of boxing. No question the US was king for most of that time. There are reasons to believe the sport has been in an upswing in the UK, though, while it has been in a long decline in popularity in the US. I think no one reasonable would argue that boxing is bigger in the US now than it was in the 60s, 70s or 80s or 90s. But boxing is bigger in the UK now than it was in the 90s.

Not gonna wade deep into the “where is boxing bigger”. But in many other nations boxing feeds on nationalism. Us against them. And it often works. In US - most fans could not give a ****e about it cuz US athletes win all the time in tons of world individual sports so it’s not a novelty

Hearn failed to make big fights even with 1 BILLION DOLLARS of other peoples money at his disposal. Hearn could not even make in house fights. Without marquee fights or mainstream sports DAZN will never gain traction in north america. Maybe they can keep the british bum fights app and italian soccer app going. Gonna take a while to pay off 10 BILLION DOLLARS in debt with just those two markets.
