'Team 700' Indigenous boxing team need your help!

Donate a little if you can please! Or share on social media if you can't donate. Anything helps. I'd love to get my son in this when he's a bit older if they are successful with funding.

Please check the URL and try again or, alternatively, you can browse fundraisers currently receiving the most donations worldwide below.

(not sure if we're allowed to post stuff like this but I'd hope so)

Team 700 is the first Indigenous youth competitive boxing team in British Columbia. Team 700 is safe place for Indigenous youth to aspire for greatness. Inside and outside of the ring. Team 700 is Indigenous excellence. Team 700 in family.

Team 700 was founded in late 2019. The Nanaimo Indigenous youth advisory council chose the name 700. All of the youth on this council shared lived experience of being in government "care" and they wanted a name that could start meaningful conversation. Approximately 700 youth age out of government "care" with little to no support each year (the number is close to 1000 now).

Recently, Team 700 abruptly lost funding with no notice. We are currently working towards securing more funding to make the program sustainable once again. This will take time.

We need your support to keep running this valuable program in the interim while this work is being done. Our fundraising goal will provide us with 6+ months of security.

Please support us in keeping this team together.

NANAIMO -- Inside the ring, a team of Nanaimo boxers are finely tuned athletes looking to compete and win, but recently Team 700 took a punch that buckled their collective knees.

The 10-member youth boxing club is B.C.’s only all-Indigenous team.

“Everyone of these youth are warriors,” said head coach Ivy Richardson. “It’s in their blood.”

The inclusive squad allows different tribes and genders to skip, shadowbox and spar side-by-side, but the team recently lost a key member, its financial backer.

“I was notified June 30 and it was effective immediately,” said Richardson.
“Our rent was due the next day so it put us in a tough position,” she added. “So we are fundraising so we can stay together in the interim.”

Started in 2019, Team 700 is a youth boxing club aimed at keeping children focused on school while arming them with athletic abilities they may not get without a structured group.
“The goal is just to give are Indigenous youth a safe place to get the tools they need to navigate life,” Richardson told CTV News.
The modus operandi appears to be working.

As she wraps her hands in preparation of a sparring match, teenager Kiana Peters describes what the group means to her. “It means, like, happiness.”
Across the gym, heavy-hitting 21-year-old Trent Jack says the team is like a family as he slams his fists into a punching bag.

“It’s important for, I’d say, my well being,” he says. “It’s my passion.”

Team leadership doesn’t want to publicize who their former financial backer is. The pugilists do, however, need help to stay in the ring.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover their annual costs, which currently total around $40,000.
So far, the fundraiser has collected approximately $7,000.

Richardson is dismayed by the loss of funding, but is vowing to keep her eyes firmly on the future and team expansion.
Team 700 has been wildly popular among Vancouver Island First Nations youth and the team has a waiting list.
Richardson wants to expand her coaching team and get more ring time.
The head coach believes the team’s annual budget could soon top out near $75,000.
“We’ve started something really great and we aren’t going anywhere,” she said.

Yeah, **** this country honestly. So sick and tired of the inept government at every level, the corrupt RCMP, useless soft-ass justice system, don't even get me started on "The Crown" That is of course not even mentioning the atrocities brought up in this thread.

I thought some of these kids looked pretty sharp though. Bums me out that they're still 5k away from their goal and that's just to stay open for another 6 months.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the province, some inept parents let their infant kid 'interact' with some ****** mongrel dog, despite being on a leash, the poor kid had its face brutally mauled. They set up a go fund me with a $2500 goal. Keep in mind we have healthcare here so why are they scamming people for being irresponsible moron parents? Not only that they received like $20,000 wellll over what they stated they needed. Yeah, it's sad but you don't deserve a free handout because you ******ly endangered your child's life. The ****** dog probably won't even get put down because everyone is on some lunatic dog worship nonsense these days.

Anyway thank you for bumping my thread regardless

I'll drop in a fiver man, ain't got more to give right now. And yeah read all that about the indigenous kids... like I said in a previous discussion it was effectively a cultural genocide. Colonialism got a lot ot answer for wherever you look in the world.

I'm really sorry to hear about those Indigenous kids. I even watched Justin Trudeau (Canadian Prime Minister) not being able to say "Happy Canada Day" with a smile and straight face. Looked like nobody wanted to celebrate. I felt his apology. In the US, the colonial power just exterminated almost all the Native people. Those were mean, genocidal Euros.

Sponsoring a team like this shouldn't require any donations. BC should take care of it. It's a shame if this team even needs a donation in Canada.
