How does this Russian guy deserve a title shot?? By beating what highly regarded contender? Couldn’t stop the nobody he fought in his fight who had been Ko’d twice in his previous 3. Mismatch in the making!

But this is Jermell, not Jermall. Jermell has been fighting many unifications and doesn't fight a bunch of nobody opponents.

Gotcha. Yep Jermell fought tougher comp and is the better brother.

Jermall keeps fighting nobodies and he is going to lose soon to one of these no namers.

Its a division full of nobodies, so why not give a nobody a shot? All I know is I aint watching it.

Their rankings fcking suck. Just like all other belt rankings. All 4 of them consistently rank sh/t fighters. Then the fans have the privilege of watching these sh.t/blowout fights. Always some John Doe waiting in line as a mandatory. More times than not, it’s some unknown fighter with little to no chance of winning or being competitive.

As a matter of fact, I should be ranked there. Put my damn name in there. All I ask for is $50k and i’m good. Use me to pad someone’s resume. Who do I talk to, to get ranked as a contender for one of these belts? I will go to the park and beef up my resume against homeless people. I’m going in as 20-0 with 20 KO’s. 20 bums have tried, 20 bums have failed. One of these sanctioning bodies will have to recognize my record and place me in their top 10. Keep your eye out for me. I’m gonna be someone’s mandatory one of these days.
Why don't you bash the promoters who steer their fighters away from the IBF rankings, just because they don't want to be forced to follow a firm/transparent rulebook?

              That's the real problem here.

                Please elaborate.

And no. That is not the real problem here.

The problem is, other than there being 23 belts per weight class, that the sanctioning bodies don’t rank the same fighters.

But the “real” problem is the 23 belts per weight class.

I have no objection. Jermell is not very good, he can lose to anybody top 20. This division is full of mediocre guys that can lose to each other.

Well yeah, you got a point there. A bunch of belts per weight class is the REAL problem.

But you were critical of the IBF rankings. They aren't full of big names, I agree. But that's because promoters like Bob Arum prefer to have their fighters ranked by the WBO or WBC or WBA.

They can more easily manipulate those ratings in their favor. For example, Austin Trout was in the WBO top 4 then "accidentally" disappeared from the top 15 just so that a Frank Warren fighter could get a shot at the vacant title.

The IBF has hard and fast rules that make it difficult to pull off this kind of nonsense. So the big promoters tend to have their big name fighters in the rankings of the other alphabet groups.

That's an interesting take. I always wondered why the IBF had so many pedestrian fighters in their rankings.
