I had a feeling they'd cave in and give Canelo a 1 fight deal because at the end of the day this benefits Caleb Plant too. What would be Plant's back up plan for even half the money he'll make fighting Canelo? I don't know what the guarantee is but it seems they may be overpaying Canelo just to lure him in for further business. The fight being on FOX PPV is also going to put Canelo back in front of Casuals when they begin promoting the fight right into the beginning of the NFL season.

My question is still....how does Eddie Hearn fit in all of this?

In regards to Eddie & Canelo, hasn't he said all along that Canelo is a network free agent and he would promote him but the fight could land where ever the most money is? Similar to Joshua (excluding SKY UK) and Dillian Whyte etc.

This is exactly what all high profile boxers should be doing, where ever it makes the most sense the fight should go, sounds like I'll get it as part of the Australian dazn schedule.

I think Canelo has made, and is making enough money that he is not going to get himself locked into a deal where he is getting told who and when to fight, by promoter or network.

Whatever you think or Canelo, tainted meat and GGG 1 scorecards aside, what he is doing at the moment is how boxing should be done, unifying a division, 3-4 fights a year, not letting networks issues block fights, you love to see it.

Sounds like Haymon/FOX are taking an enormous gamble here. If they're guaranteeing Canelo a $40m minimum and Plant $10m this PPV has to do 1.25m buys just for Haymon/FOX to break even. That's almost as much as Canelo v Golovkin I and more than Golovkin v Canelo II.

Canelo has no doubt become a bigger star since then but against an opponent who most expect won't be able to make it a competitive fight it seems like a large risk.

If dazn are broadcasting it internationally surely they would have to contribute a fair amount, as would the mexican broadcast rights if not handled by dazn.

Would be interesting to know the breakdown of a Canelo fight, USA vs global revenue.
