Lack of hype surrounding undisputed title fights.

So we had Taylor vs Ramirez in May and now Charlo vs Castano tomorrow, yet there doesn’t seem to be all that much buzz. Both had limited international broadcasters and neither have been heavily promoted by the media.

Obviously us hardcore fans are invested but I feel like boxing needs to do a better job at marketing these fights to the wider audience.

Undisputed title fights dont seem to have significant marketing value if the participating fighters are not well known.

but it's difficult for casual fans to follow the title shenanigans. So it probably doesnt really make much of a difference when they read title fight or undisputed title fight if they dont know to begin with that there are 4+ champions in each weight class.

It goes to show how important name recognition and having a fanbase is in boxing. Titles are the logical way to promote your fighter rather than being the end goal.

Fighters have to make the title worthy of recognition, it's not automatically given anymore.

I agree with this for the most part but I also think it has to do with the divisions. JMW and JWW aren’t original divisions. Same with cruiser when Usyk unified.

when Teo and Loma fought it was huge because LW is an original division. If HW, MW, WW, LW or FW has a unification it will be huge.

The exception is if a cash cow like Floyd, Canelo or Manny is unifying then it will be huge like you pointed out.

Never understood why the Charlo brothers weren't as popular as Tank or Spence.

Honestly Showtime does a terrible job at promoting their fights. As a premium cable customer I have 8 or 9 different Showtime channels and its benefit all parties involved if they spoke of it more than once a day on 1 of those channels if they even bring it up that much. Hell they could advertise bigger fights on other channels too and get even some casuals interested IMO

I don’t think much of the 154lb division. So not much interest from me, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. That could be one reason. Ramirez-Taylor would’ve been epic with a crowd I believe and would’ve brought a lot of buzz/coverage with that extra money, But Bob was **** about Covid.

Hopefully they all disappear as fast as possible. Maybe the fans are smartening up and seeing through these corrupt belt orgs.

Bob Arum only half-ass promotes. I hope fighters are noticing that.

And PBC is complete crap at building buzz for their fighters. I've said it forever.

One’s an olympian and the other is Broner 2.0 i.e Floyd’s protege. Not hard to see why they’re more popular. Both have gotten in there with more names too.
