Whats the first (big)fight you remember watching?

With all the racist and fighter bashing threads around here it seems that everybody hates each other, but at the end of the day we all love boxing.

Simple thread, what is the first fight you remember watching? or the fight that made you fall in love with boxing. How old were you? How was it?

For me the first fight i remember watching was Leonard-Hagler. Fight took place in '87 but i must have seen a rerun a year or two later cause i was born in '84.

So i was like 5 or so, i clearly remember thinking just before the fight started that Leonard was going to get hurt. He looked like too much of a nice guy to be fighting, but little did i know i was going to be amazed. It was a long time ago but i still remember it pretty clearly.

I don't remember who i was with, either my parents or grand parents. But i remember asking them "Is the nice man going to get hurt?"(Talking about Sugar Ray Leonard.) Hagler looked like a pure badass, i thought the baby faced Leonard would lose for sure.

Then the fight started i was still scared that Leonard was going to get hurt for the first round or two. But then Sugar Ray started throwing those blazing combinations and showboating, throwing bolo punches, showing his chin, ect.

I was amazed at how fast and amazing the guy i first had pity for was.

Thats when i fell in love with boxing. What about you guys?

Yeah it was Leonard-Hagler for me to. I bet pops a qtr that Hagler would win. When it was over I went begrudgingly to pay up. One of the best fights Ive seen to date, Great contrast in styles and the first time I saw a boxer get pencil whipped. You know, He didnt take the money from me because in his heart he knew Sugar wasnt so sweet that night and got a gift.

Mike Tyson vs. Michael Spinks. I was 7 years old at my cousins house back in 88.

I'm watching it now on youtube. Boy does this bring back memories.
