Comments Thread For: WBA Rejects Pacquiao Request For Title Reinstatement; Ugas To Remain WBA "Super" Champ

The Champ in Recess can demand an immediate shot at the full champion whenever he decides to return. So in reality Manny could have demanded to fight Ugas next and step over every other WBA contender.Comment

PBC tried to approach him about a few or their welters and he said point blank he wasn't going to fight in an empty venue. He wasn't alone. A few fighters took that stance - like Fury-Wilder 3 and Joshua.Comment

Yordenis Ugas was denied the chance to contend for two more welterweight belts but will at least retain his own title status ahead of his next fight. BoxingScene.com has learned that a ruling handed down by the World Boxing Association (WBA) will allow the Miami's Ugas to remain in place as the sanctioning body's "Super" titlist. The decision was returned on Friday, in response to a formal appeal filed by former eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao who sought to have his title status reinstated after being downgraded to "Champion in Recess" earlier this year due to inactivity.
It also came at the expense of Pacquiao, who hadn’t fought in 18 months to that point and failed to notify the WBA of confirmed plans for his next title defense. The legendary Filipino southpaw still keep the fight with Spence, though now in a "bid to become a five-time welterweight titlist" rather than attempting the first defense of his fourth reign.

I am surprised with it being the WB(PBC)A but good. They should never of stripped Pac in the 1st place but they did, they should of never of just handed the belt to somebody else instead of making it vacant and fighting for it but they did so now they have a champion they shouldn't then strip him and hand the belt back to somebody else.Comment

The WBA messed up by putting Pac in recess in the first place. Surely he should have been ordered to defend his belt and if he didn't comply then stripped. He was just put in recess automatically without any warning. With that said it's not right to reinstate him as champion unless he beats Ugas for the belt so I feel they have made the correct decision here (for once lol) as two wrongs don't make a right. But shame on them for messing up in the first place.Comment
