Comments Thread For: Xu Can-Leigh Wood Title Fight Reportedly Set For July 31 In U.K.

Xu Can appears destined to head to the United Kingdom for his next fight after all. The high-octane featherweight will return to the ring for the first time since the pandemic, as he will defend his WBA "World" featherweight title versus England's Leigh Wood. China Daily--the leading English-language publication in China--reports that the bout will take place July 31 (August 1 local time) in London.

Not trying to be disrespectful but Leigh Wood has never proved himself beyond domestic level. This is an easy fight for Xu.

These fight camp cards are no better than the stuff we were getting on regular Sky. It’s the same stereotypical Matchroom matchmaking.

This could be fun. Wood did good against Jazza and is with boxercise Ben now.

Seeing Leigh Wood get beat is better than some Matchroom nights!

Matchroom had a nice run of making most fights meaningful but the pandemic ending means they can go back to this stuff. Alarm bells rang for me when Queensberry put on 2 superior shows in a row

That line is absolutely spot on mate.

I’d have rather seen something like Leigh Wood vs Ryan Walsh. I just see this as a bit of mismatch tbh.

I could actually see Wood pulling the upset here. Xu throws a ton of punches, but activity is his only real strength, doesn't have any power, should have lost clearly to Rojas and nearly lost to Bernache

I'm thinking the same thing. Xu is a fun fighter but he isn't all that good. All volume and no power. Wood has decent enough timing so he could be able to land the bigger stuff, even stuff that does damage to Xu. I remember Jazza looked beat up bad after their fight. I think it's a competitive fight.

If this is a World title fight, then I'm a Nun's gusset!

Feel bad for my boy Rojas always fun to watch , got the shorthand of the stick not only with Xu but also JoJo diaz actually thought that fight was pretty close although I do think JoJo edged it. Still now his career is over even tho he's world class

The Xu/Rojas fight was close, as I recall I had Xu winning it or possibly a draw... The problem was that the cards of the judges had it a wide decision for the Chinese fighter.
