How did Spence fans come up with this insane theory that Thurman ducked Spence?

I wouldn't use the word duck. But Spence fans were calling for that fight back in 2015 and the media were already asking the fighters about it back then. Then throw in that a lot of people don't believe Thurman was really injured. They think that after being well-paid for the Garcia fight, he wasn't keen to face the more dangerous Spence for the same/less money and so took time off to wait for a fight that was either more money or less risk or both. Whether you agree or not, that's why Spence fans see it that way.

You say 'Spence wasn't a champ until 2017' but that's because he couldn't get a shot with anybody else. He had to go the IBF route because that was the only way he was ever getting a title shot.

Right! Spence won his first title a couple of months AFTER Keith UNIFIED titles at Welterweight. Yes, Keith was injured and didn't fight the entire 2018 year. I believe he and Lopez were negotiating during late summer of 2017 but things fell through for whatever reason....which led us to the Thurman/Lopez fight in January 2019 and a Pac fight in July of that year.

He was injured before and during the Pac fight and got surgery again. People want to make excuses for Spence and his drunk driving adventures but talk crap about Thurman's injuries, which he's showed doctor's reports of.

Hell, most people simply choose to believe Spence when he said he and Danny were supposed to fight in January of 2020 but the "accident" caused Team Garcia to move on to Redkach. Again, how are we supposed to be 100% sure Spence was just gonna face one big name after another while Keith "ducked" him the whole time.

I don’t remember that but I do remember Spence saying he’ll never fight Thurman because Thurman is a cornball.

He was always very dismissive about the fight and whenever asked about it he never seemed keen about ever entertaining it. I mean, even in 2018, when he had unified belts and Spence had already won and defended the IBF title. And in 2018, when asked about Spence he said it wasn't time yet. He was always saying rematches with Porter and Danny. It wasn't until after losing to Manny when Keith started to seriously talk about fighting Spence, because he found himself on the outside looking in. But when he was in the dominant position, it was never the right time. Thurman can fight Ugas and get himself in position for a title shot but he doesn't seem to actually want to do that.

Calling for the fight in 2015 was insane.

Spence was an absolute nobody in 2015.

Like Thurman said. If Spence wanted him he would have told his manager (they share the same manager) to get in touch with Keith. Spence was more than content just following the Al blueprint. Just like he is now “uhh, he told me ima fight Mikey, then Shawn then…” etc.

Thurman said he would fight Spence in 2019 in the link you sent me. He said he wanted one or two tune up fights before facing Spence because he was coming back from surgery.

He then fought Manny Pacquiao instead of Spence because he got the call.

How can you claim that’s a duck? He literally said he would fight him after a tune up.

Brook was still champ though IIRC.

I think people forget how no1 wanted to give Spence a title shot. He was too "dangerous"..I mean he finally got the Kell Brook shot but even that he had to agree to every demand Brook wanted. Thurman was one of the few champions who had no interest in a Spence fight. That's a fact. Would I call it a duck? Not really. But I can see why Errol Spence felt slighted and why he is gonna now play hardball with Thurman now that he's in a position of power. I honestly don't have much interest in the Thurman fight.. Unify against Pacquiao and then move up. Alot of of good fights at 154.

                      154 is a garbage pile.

If Spence moves to 154 instead of cleaning out 147, it’ll be a huge disappointment.
