Oscar De La Hoya appreciation thread

I know people loved Oscar as a fighter but I just gotta make another thread

Other than obviously his fan-friendly style, I just loved this dude's approach to boxing. When I was watching Vargas vs Oscar they were saying how Oscar already had $100 million in the bank, but he was fighting like he didn't have a penny in his pocket. I loved how after the fight Larry Merchant asked why he fought Vargas, and he said: "He was talking all that ****, so you know I had to give him a boxing lesson"

I'm a fan of Errol but I hate his diva mentality. Like I guess you can argue it's just giving someone the taste of your own medicine, but someone like Oscar would never do that. Errol is not the only one who does that, there are soooo many prospects and even world champs nowadays that are on that bull****. Oscar fought the big names from the beginning of his career (Chavez, whitaker, camacho, quartey) to the end of his career (Hopkins, Floyd, Pac). Yeah he lost some, but he also won a bunch that people seem to forget and imo he's been robbed twice (Mosley 2, Trinidad).

I fw Canelo but his legacy is nowhere near Oscar and p4p Oscar would whoop his ass.

I agree with everything said here.

Oscar was the cash cow, but he just gave you the fights you wanted to see man. Bad style matchups you name it. No overmarinating. None of that bs.
Fought Tito when both guys were prime so it was no excuses. Held his own against a still good Pernell Whitaker. Went up to mw and took a shot @ Hopkins. Floyd's pops thought Oscar beat him.

His biggest contribution was making Pacquiao and froid the ppv stars they're known as.

I will remember him as a gay dude that wore women’s clothes and stuck kitchen utensils in his ass during a coke binge with some hookers.

but you make fair points that he arguably did beat Tito and Shane in those fights.

He’s such a likeable fighter but such a dislikable person.

There’s a YouTube video of him sparring Chavez as a teenager. He was skinny as a pole. Chavez put some shtank on his punches and Oscar LIT HIM UP. I was shocked to see Oscar looking so fragile compared to Chavez.
Chavez looked 20 pounds heavier. Looked like a man vs a kid. Everyone loves to talk sheeit about Oscar but he was a bad bad mother fcker. If he would of fought Mayweather 5 years earlier. He would of EMBARRASSED Floyd.

I saw him fight a couple of times at 130. I DONT BELIEVE ANY BOXER could whip him at that weight. He wasn’t really a natural 147 but that’s where the money was.
