just thought it would be interesting to those who enjoy watching his commentation and were unaware of this. i guess atlas really was a tough guy back then, it takes balls to press a gun to tyson's head when you are just a trainer
Well, it doesn't really take balls to point a gun at a defenseless 15 year old kid, but I agree with the reason why Teddy did it.
This is an old story that has been told a couple different times and a couple different ways for many years. Tyson doesn't deny anything about Atlas' story, except Tyson says he was just "being fresh, and grabbed her butt."
I see both sides of this story in a way. Atlas can't pull a gun on a kid, stick it in his ear, threaten him, and pull the gun away and fire it, and then expect the kid to trust him and be trained by him again. And at the same time, he can't just let Tyson get away with that.
Tyson was allowed to get away with everything back then. Cus accomplished his goal of making Mike the youngest HW champion, and a KO artist, but he created a monster who didn't know right from wrong, which ultimately ruined him and lead to a waste of incredible talent. I've said this before, if Atlas had gotten his point across without the gunplay, and if Cus had disciplined Tyson correctly with some tough love occasionally, then he could have broken Marciano's record and been one of the top 3 HW's of all time, because Atlas was actually a perfect match for Tyson. Rooney was good, too, and if Jacobs had lived, then you might have seen Tyson go 50-0 also.
King and his entourage (along with the drama queen/attention seeker Robin Givens) were the worst thing that could have happened to Tyson. He began to do whatever he wanted, with no discipline, and he ruined himself as a person and as a fighter. But it all really began with Cus showing Mike he could do whatever he wanted and ultimately get away with it....and firing Atlas after that incident just reenforced that.
anybody trying to **** someone will have him in this sitaution someday.
He deserves it. If same thing happen to you you would react nearly the same if he was 15 or 20 or 50 it doesnt matter. **** is a serouis crime maybe worse than murder.
I never knew this happened before. Teddy was talking about this on ESPN.
Ted: "I came home from the gym and my wife and her sister were both crying, I asked them what was wrong and they said that Mike tried to force himself onto her sister, an 11 yo little girl. I went outside looking for Mike, and figured he was still at the gym. I was getting ready to go to the gym when a cab drove up outside."
"I hid in the bushes, and when Mike approached, I grabbed him and pressed the .38 to his temple. 'If you ever touch my family again, your dead.' Mike apologized and that's the last of the disrespect I ever experienced from Mike."
