    Creative matchmaking for Crawford

At a certain point you have to stop making excuses and get creative. That point for Crawford was about two years ago. Yes there are factors out of your control but with some creativity you can overcome that. Gervonta Davis is a good example. Despite Top Rank controlling 130 & 135 he's been able to grow his profile without fighting them, instead they've used creative matchmaking. Barrios is the latest example. Although he's not the best at 140 this is still an intriguing matchup.

What are some creative matchmaking options we can come up with for Crawford?

The creative matchmaking would have been getting him the Teixeira fight when he was the champion at 154. But whatever fights that get made for him have to fit "under the budget" so not sure what getting creative will do for him.......Since his promoter is not willing to spend. And you don't have to be creative to make the Porter fight or now the Taylor fight. Those are fights Crawford can get.

Lol that Porter situation gets under your skin huh? Heard this guy say people try to make Crawford out as some guy who will fight anybody when he's shown time & time again he's just about the money.
      • Wants 50/50 for Spence
      • Took the high guarantee instead of signing where the legacy fights were
      • Called out Pac over Spence for the money after his last fight
      • Wouldn't take a pay cut during the pandemic
      • Wouldn't take a pay cut to negotiate for Spence or Thurman

Time & time again he's shown he's only about the money

I mean what upsets me is that supposedly everyone is scared of Crawford but when fighters reach out trying to make a fight with him, TR always comes out and says the money is not there. BoMac said the same thing on some podcast last year saying Danny, Porter and Thurman have shown interest but they can't come up with the money. Kenny Porter though didn't even make a demand of what he wanted for that fight and Arum shut him down and completely ignored him.

I do agree that Bud is overrating his value and isn't what he thinks he is. He keeps going on and on about him deserving more than Spence since he's a three weight world champion and will be in the HOF if he retired today....But what the hell does that matter in terms of your value? Your own promoter FFS is saying you can't sell and he has NO confidence whatsoever of him selling. The P4P status or potential HOF status means NOTHING. Chocolatito has a better legacy than Crawford so if those two fought, should Chocolatito be able to demand more money? So yeah, Bud deserves his fair share of heat but I'm just a fan of his and think he's a bad mutha f'er and would love to see him get these big fights.

But to the point of the thread, how do you suggest he gets creative considering his promoter isn't going to spend over a certain limit?

well these guys are prizefighters, so can't blame them for looking at the money first and foremost. The problem with Crawford is that he is delusional in terms of his lack of popularity, this is why he is short sighted in terms of his earning potential. If he's unwilling to lower his asking price to land a big fight, he'll never be a big PPV star fighting no hopers.

Its NOT about creative matchmaking. It’s about COMMON SENSE.

Yet overall he's earned slightly less than Spence and more than any other active PBC fighter between 135 - 200. He's the only undisputed champion among them as well.

He can make a play for a Josh Taylor fight if Arum can make it happen and Josh is willing. Mikey doesn't seem interested, think he is heading back to 140.

I think his options are down to Vergil Ortiz and Josh Taylor.
