Josh Taylor robbed of a stoppage win by Kenny Bayless' long counts

Actually Bayless messed up on both counts. What he did, or should I say didn’t do, benefitted Taylor more than Ramirez.

I had no dog in this fight, I like both fighters. But I was screaming at the tv when Taylor was breathing on Bayless after both kd’s. The second kd, he got so close to Bayless, even my clueless-about-boxing wife even pointed out and asked if Taylor can do that.

Taylor, being dumb or full of adrenaline, or both, decided to not go to the neutral corner in both kd’s. A ref isn’t supposed to count if the fighter is not in a neutral corner. Bayless did not catch this immediately. In the second one, he caught Taylor standing right behind him ready to go after Ramirez and stopped counting, per pro boxing rules, and told Taylor to back off.

So yeah, Taylor actually benefitted from Bayless not seeing him not go to the neutral corner.

”(6) When a boxer is knocked down, the referee shall direct the opponent to move to the farthest neutral corner of the ring. If the opponent leaves the neutral corner, the referee shall interrupt the count and will not resume the count until the opponent returns to the neutral corner.”

Bayless actually let Taylor slide both times.

What? Taylor went straight to the neutral corner after the first KD, Taylor didn't walk over until Bayless had finished his count for the second. The ref supposed to pick up the count from ringside after the fighter goes to the neutral corner. It doesn't only start when a fighter reaches the neutral corner.

yep, even those scorecards were a joke. if he didn't almost knock ramirez unconscious twice and put him on his back, they would have robbed him.

But look at the second KD.

You can not tell me you don't see Taylor standing next to Bayless there, interrupting his own KD for 4 seconds. That same video you showed, look at Taylor, instead of backing up to the neutral corner, he steps forward to a Ramirez who was already down. He then spooks Bayless by breathing on top of him. Look at Bayless' reaction when he counted 8 and then Taylor was right there.

Just saying, Taylor distracted Bayless, ruining his own count.

Yeah. Don't know why they keep hiring that ref as if he's some genius at refereeing or something. I just don't like referees interfering too much, in general.

You can always tell with their body language like they're always aiming to physically separate the fighters. Why not just yell break and let them break themselves. Inside fighting is never possible with these types of ****** refs.

Taylor showed himself to be a class above Jose Ramirez, and anywhere else in the world the fight would have ended early. Anybody crying about Ramirez winning, or Josh not being a clear winner, are simply deluded.

If Bayless was trying to help Ramirez then he would have let the Mexican work on the inside of instead of calling for quick breaks all night.

This is true, I didn't count, but for as much as I like and appreciate Ramirez, I found myself yelling at the ref after both knockdowns because of all the extra time he gave Ramirez to recover. I think Taylor would have forced a stoppage after the second knock down.

Additionally, I think having the fight 6 rounds a piece was too close. Taylor needs to be commended for winning such a tough fight on the road cleanly and clearly.

Lol WTF? That second KD, there were 22 seconds between Ramirez landing on his back, and Bayless calling continue. You excused 4 seconds in your post, so what about the other extra 8?

I had Taylor winning, and was rooting for him when he got the KD's (I would have been equally happy with Ramirez winning).

But you can't tell me that you see nothing Taylor could have changed in the aftermath of KD a fighter.

I still stand by my first comment that Bayless actually was lenient in this fight.

If the fight had a younger ref who is trying to insert himself into the fight to make a name for himself, there were several things not done by Bayless that some other new ref would have done.
