    So Why Did Ward Retire?

The man still clearly loves boxing and is focused on it. 1st thing he did was get a commentator job

Ward didn’t take much punishment in his career and could have fought on for awhile

He was getting hurt every camp and was not even close to the fighter he was during his 168 days when he retired. From shoulder injuries to knee injuries, it was time to go. He could still compete with the top dogs but Ward wasn't at his best and there wasn't really a huge payday looming for him. Right decision to call it a career.

He peaked and knew it. Credit to him for knowing it. He would have taken an L had he continued .

I think there are injuries that fighters acquires that remain hidden to the public. Only but by a few in a close circle have knowledge.

Some fighters do take a chance if the money is right. Andre is worth what 8 to 10 million plus endorsements and ESPN money.

              1. He probably made the amount of money he wanted to make in boxing and just saved it away to enjoy life.

              2. At 33, he probably felt his prime was done. It may not be as obvious to spectators, but it could be very obvious to the fighter. It can be anything. Injuries in gym, getting tagged more in sparring, feeling weaker.

              3. He realized he is not getting that big signature cashout and retired because he didn’t want to linger around fighting in low reward fights. He tried to get GGG, Chavez Jr, Froch rematch. They all said no. Froch said he was straight up not interested. GGG/Sanchez told him come down to 164lbs, and would not budge from there but would go up to 168lbs for Chavez Jr. So basically, they said no to Ward without saying no to him.

he won by 5 punch combination to the balls in his last fight

next ref wouldnt allow that again and he'd be DQ'd

public would have demanded he continue fighting light heavyweights and without ball bunches

                so he quit boxing

ward knew he got away with a black eye in the first kovalev fight which he should have lost but he clearly won the 2nd fight even if the end is debattable.
but still props to him for fighting kovalev when he was still in the end of his prime.

canelo on the other hand just bought the kovalev victory, everybody and their mother knew kovalev wasnt ready for another fight camp let alone a real fight 2 or 3 months after getting almost knocked out and 100% concussed vs yarde.
even kovalev knew but everybody would have sold his soul for that canelo money even if it means u will 100% lose but live a happy life afterwards.

Yes. Should have carried on for at least another 2 years. 33 is to young. Still in his prime.
