Did you really just use that as an example? Come on. In that case everyone is surpassed.
So if another fighter comes along and goes 100-0 and defeats 1 champion in every weight class (all 17 weight classes) over his career...that doesn't impact ATG standings? Yes, it does...otherwise Floyd could never be an ATG because SRR, SRL, Duran, Hagler, Ali, etc. they all retired well before Floyd and they're all ATG
We’re talking Floyd and manny now. With Floyd, whether it be manny, canelo, Loma, etc etc every above average win somehow became a referendum on Floyd.
maybe we need to accept the fact that boxing doesn’t occupy the same space and therefore doesn’t attract the same level of talent the sport used to. Because of that it is very difficult for modern fighters to climb the ATG list.
I just think the Floyd / manny thing has been decided when they fought. I just don’t see why people can’t move on.
manny signs to fight Spence and that becomes about Floyd.
and you guys wonder why Floyd makes hundreds of millions fighting white pop culture figures in exhibitions.Comment

Floyd was the better fighter, Pacquiao is the greater fighter.

The reason modern fighters don't climb the ATG list is because of how hard it is to stand out today, that's the numbers game of today's times in play, the internet changed everything not in making them any better or worse in ability, the internet changed how someone is perceived and seen publicly it's so easy to pull a major scam now, scam as in building and presenting a lie that is swallowed by the masses. today everything is more of a popularity contest than ever before, today that is 80% of the equation.

I think that is a fair observation. I also think the quality of competition has been watered down.

I actually think the overall quality of fighters is better through science and the game evolving, just think its so hard to stand above the crowd now so much so they are expected to fight the monsters every time they step out, the ATGs of history had a load of cans on their resumes but they had a few great names also and that was enough the media coverage just wasn't there, not today its never enough to beat top guys you must beat the impossible every start, no matter what or who they beat there will always be the naysayers in multi rows so the actual real levels of the sport get lost in the soup.Comment
