I remember Vernon walking into the ring rapping we ready vs Ricardo Mayorga, he got knocked out in what? 4 rounds or so? Then in the rematch he simply got outbrawled. This is the best Mayorga we've ever seen. Vernon was the man beating Shane twice imo he was all class. But el Matador fights like more of a el Toro lol. He became a good litmus test for big names in his career, mostly coming up short though most of the time.
Gatti on the other hand was the blood and guts warrior aka the human highlight reel. There's nothing more I can say, the dude was a machine. I remember he went up to 147 to fight Oscar but it didn't go down the way they planned it.
This fight would be interesting, especially with buddy McGirt in the corner of Arturo. If I had to pick one I would lean more towards Gatti. But Mayorga was no joke. He looked pretty well against Corey Spinks in his next fight. This is what you call a pick em fight. -
I’d pick Mayorga. He was the bigger man and probably had a better chin and harder punch. We know that Mayorga would turn it into a brawl even if Gatti attempted to keep it a boxing contest, because Arturo almost always ended up brawling.Comment

Didn't Gatti get mauled by Mayweather of all people and give up on the stool. Mayorga took a waaaay worse beating from a way stronger puncher in the form of Trinidad. Gatti wouldn't have survived that 5th round beatdown, and he clearly didn't have the power that Mayorga did either.Comment

Anybody who thinks Gatti would beat Mayorga in both their primes is a troll, or from Gatti's background.I remember Vernon walking into the ring rapping we ready vs Ricardo Mayorga, he got knocked out in what? 4 rounds or so? Gatti would get knocked out. Too easy to hit and Mayorga was a hard puncher @ 47.Comment
