Comments Thread For: Josh Taylor-Jose Ramirez and The Joy of Actual Fights

By Cliff Rold - The biggest news in boxing this week, centering on contract battles at heavyweight, is ultimately about what isn't happening and what might happen next. That's a damn shame. What's happening for sure, in the now, could be that good. The best reason to watch and follow boxing is to see compelling, hopefully violent clashes played out three minutes at a time. There's nothing better. Heavyweight will inevitably get to that later this year and will be much more interesting when it does.

"If Joshua-Oleksandr Usyk is the other side of the coin from Wilder-Fury III, that’s a pretty good outcome for fight fans." Agreed. It is like settling for fast food when you wanted a steak, but at least it is Arby's which is edible and not Taco Bell which makes a rock in your digestive track.

"Is Lebron-Curry the Magic-Bird of this era?" Ummm no. Maybe if you squint, look at the championships, and just do the "on paper" comparison you could make the argument. But anyone who actually lived through those years will just dismiss it with an eye roll and face palm. Their rivalry began in the NCAA championship game in collage. They each revived historic franchises. They each had teams around them with all time great players that stayed together. They were in different conferences their entire careers, making those 2 times a year regular season match-ups must watch TV. It was just a different era with different feels. James and Curry is underrated and fun, but there is nothing close to Bird and Magic since, even if Bird actually ended up on the wrong side of it way more often than winning ( think Brady against Peyton in the NFL for a reference).

I am disappointed by the title of this thread and the inherent bias thereof. I have addressed this unprofessional favoritism for Taylor in the past, the marquee reads Jose Ramirez vs. Josh Taylor. After Saturday, boxing journalist wont be able to disrespect Jose Ramirez any longer. Out goes Josh Taylor from the P4P and in comes Jose Ramirez, whether you like it or not.

The casuals cant tell you that 140 will now have produced two undisputed jr. welterweight champions in the last five years, that the American unified WBC-WBO champion Jose Ramirez will meet the highest standard in the sport and add great depth and prestige to the jr. welterweight class, bumping it closer to the glamour divisions.

Ramirez, will join fellow American jr. welterweight greats like : Eddie Perkins, Takeshi Fuji, and Terence Crawford, making Jose Ramirez the first Mexican-American and fourth U.S jr welterweight to achieve such great status.

The Taylor-Ramirez fight has seemed to have gotten buried under other fight news but it will be noticed when it happens. I see it being a great fight a fight that leads to a second fight between these two. Then it will take off. Right now it is quiet but that don/t mean it is not going to be a great fight most of the best ones fly under the radar. Am I hoping so...... yes I am but I really do not see this fight as going any other way then a fight to remember. Are they giving us some good fights now and down the road yea, just think back a year ago at this time and it looks better then many would have thought. Now if we could just get that co-main to turn into something half way decent but that is asking a lot. never know tho....

Despite being for undisputed, it's not even competitive.
Robert will throw the towel in rd 10.

Triple T vs Ramirez is also an example to the "I'm happy with my alphabelt" champs at 147 who refuse to unify. Saturday is what boxing should be all about.
