Golden Boy Promotions could leave DAZN at end of 2021, looking at possible Triller deal
May 6, 2021
Golden Boy Promotions have worked with DAZN pretty much since the service launched in the U.S. in 2018, but with the contract between the parties expiring at the end of 2021, there is big speculation that Oscar De La Hoya’s company could be leaving the streaming platform for a deal with Triller.
“From my personal experience with Triller and watching the numbers they have put up in just their two shows, I’ve been extremely impressed. We are engaged in conversations with executives at Triller and will see where they land.”
There has been for months now a strong possibility that Golden Boy might find it tough to stay with DAZN, and DAZN might find it tough to keep them in the mix. The biggest thing by far is that Golden Boy lost Canelo Alvarez last year. Canelo had, with respect to some other fighters, propped up Golden Boy for years as their only true star.
Younger fighters like Munguia, Vergil Ortiz Jr, and Ryan Garcia — who has had his own repeated, very public problems with Golden Boy — are coming along. But they’re not yet mega-blockbuster stars, either, with Garcia the closest the trio come to that. Other than them and Joseph Diaz Jr, it’s hard to find fighters on the Golden Boy roster who can capably headline a really notable card.
The pandemic and the loss of Canelo have obviously hit Golden Boy hard.
But there are still months for this to play out. Triller has stormed into the boxing world with a pair of novelty events, but planning a more normal fight card in Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr doesn’t seem to be going quite so smoothly. They’re still novices in general, but definitely at that, and it’ll be a learning curve.
Triller’s interest in the more standard side of the boxing game could fade by the end of the year. Or they could figure things out, dig in, start with a real plan of attack, and have Golden Boy — which has a good, now every experienced boxing staff — as a partner helping coordinate a lot of things at the very least.
Again, months to go to see how this works out or doesn’t or whatever happens. But it’s definitely a “situation of note.”
How is what working out? You mean with the coke addict who doesn’t even know what’s going on with his “Name branded” company? Yeah I wouldn’t use Oscar as the gospel when it comes to the business end

Terrible look for boxing that this clown is signing to showtime and will probably do the biggest Ppv numbers of anyone current right now. Maybe this wouldn’t happen if the so called stars of the sport were making that fights that real fans want to see, unfortunately not one of them is doing that.
While it's not something I'm interested in and wouldn't buy the PPV for; I don't really have a problem with this.
If carnival fights like these can help create casual (and possibly even hardcore) fans of actual boxing, it's a positive. I like how Triller mixes in some decent fighters like Prograis into the cards because it increases their exposure to a larger audience.
Buzz is always good for boxing, and until the marquee names start fighting each other on a more regular basis, I will take this buzz.
In terms of preventing fights and not working with others? Yes currently. They took the mantle from Top rank/Arum
Well we just had Castano vs. Texieira on DAZN, and we're about to get Wilder vs. Fury III, so I don't see a big problem. We should be getting Crawford vs. Porter, but that's not PBC's fault! Let's see how these Canelo vs. Plant negotiations go?

Exactly. This is the reason why boxing has been on the decline. So much talent in the sport, yet those very same guys are not willing to fight each other.
Mayweather/McGregor further incited the popularity of boxing crossovers as a big money event...even for non boxers...
However, people like Crawford and Spence bickering and not fighting each other causes things like this where money is decidedly being made outside of top tier professional boxers...

Not blaming DAZN here, they willing to put money up for fights. PBC have been preventing fights. If you cannot see that then continue playing the anaemia game.
Is Floyd Mayweather vs Jake Paul going to happen next???
Mayweather vs Jake Paul will do HUGE PPV Buys!!!
Floyd is setting it up. Floyd fought the "weaker" brother first to milk this sideshow for all its worth. They will bill it as a the "better boxer" brother getting revenge for floyd ***ing up logan.
This also means jake has to fight another stiff in the meantime because if he loses that wont work. Jake is continuously calling out UFC fighters who are under contract and he knows dana will not allow them to fight. Pro boxers dont have that restriction but weird Jake will not call them out, i wonder why. He will fight some 40 year old retired golfer or some ****** chit then fight floyd for the cash out.
