    How good was Michael Moorer?

He was a great lightheavy, but how good was he really as a heavyweight? He had the power and a solid technique and beat Holyfield, Schulz, Botha and Bean.
He was also beating Foreman easily when he got stopped. The Holyfield fight was a little controversial when it comes to scoring however. I think it shoulda been a draw. Some may even say Holyfield won it and they wouldn't be way off. Comments?

He was a much better Light Heavyweight than a Heavyweight, IMO.

He was a good fighter and entertaining for the most part. I don't think he was that great at light heavyweight, then again he never got a chance to show good he was since no one gave him a shot.

As a heavyweight he accomplished quite a lot and was involved in some entertaining fights.

The way he beat and knocked out Bert Cooper is really impressive. That KO should be in lesson books!

Moorer was a terror at LHW, and Emmanuel Steward said he was probably the hardest punching LHW he ever saw. But it was kind've difficult for him to make the weight and there was no money to be made there. That's also the reason why he completely skipped the cruiserweights. He would've been THE dominant figure in those two weight classes had he chosen to fight there. All the money was being made in the heavyweight division. Tyson, Douglas, Holyfield, Morrison, Schulz, Lewis, Bowe, and Mercer were getting paid bank and Moorer saw that and went in that direction. He made some good money and he captured the true world title. He did pretty good for himself, but had he stayed at LHW, we would definitely be putting him up there with Carlos Monzon, Bob Foster, Archie Moore, Michael Spinks, and all the others I didn't say. But now he is known as a good heavyweight in an era of great heavyweights.

I woulda loved to see Moorer against Bowe, Lewis and/or Tyson! I think he would give good fights to all three. Which one of them do you think he had best chance to beat? I say Tyson.

He made history by becoming one of the few or the only lefty lhw to win the heavyweight crown. But he wasn't a very good heavyweight. He was beaten by a comebacking, old, plodding George Foreman, who lost to all the top heavies at the time. Decent boxing skills, very good power but had a suspect chin.

                Great Lightheavy, though.

Tyson would take his head off. Moorer didn't have a great chin. I think all three would knock him out but he could probably catch Lewis with a lucky punch and ko him, ala McCall and Rahman. Holyfield knocked him out, while Bowe and Lewis survived everything that Holyfield threw at them. Tyson was a different fighter when he fought Holyfield. A prime Tyson would have taken Moorer out early because Moorer would never back out of a slugfest.

what he said for the most part--one can say, might have been ,should have been but what happened only matters...-With that said, He was one of my favorite TV fighters of the late 80s -- Used to watch him on USA and ESPN...... Deadly at 175 , great movement , crushing power , he had an entertaining style at LHW.. I fact i was always jacked to see him fight at that weight... funny what 50lbs will do to a man...
