Mannix had Saunders up huge

The question is why does DAZN not only have him on their boxing show but throw to him to read his scorecard like it has any validity? Usually they have someone who scored fights before or has some relevant experience in boxing. It was hilarious that the guys calling the fight even entertain his scorecard like it might have any bearing on what a professional judge would see.
He probably knows about as much as a boxingscene forum poster. I disagree with his scorecard, but i’m not gonna sit here and say i’m better than him at scoring fights. He was somehow fooled by Saunders clowning, movement, showboating when ever he got hit hard. I’m not entirely sure what he was seeing in BJS but his colleague Carl Froch, and the 3 official judges had it for Canelo 6-2 and 5-3. Also, some boxing fans here seemed to have agreed with him. Now whether that is them being incompetent or they hate Canelo, or they genuinely believed BJS was really up, that’s a different story. All I know is I had 6-2 Canelo after 8 rounds and I felt it was easy to see that. I won’t lie though, could easily also be 5-3 Canelo, which would not be bad either.
I had it 6-2 before the stoppage which was pretty much in line with the judges. I guess I should apply to be on the next DAZN broadcast.Comment

saunders won a few rounds but it was clear who the winner was and that canelo was coming on strong down the stretch. mannix giving saunders some of the early rounds was laughable. he genuinely has no idea what he is looking at.Comment

Let’s be real, he has a name in sports reporting. With a resume like his, he can apply anywhere that has to do with reporting about sports. Anywhere. He’s sort of a “big name” in sports broadcasting. Like Max Kellermen making a name for himself on HBO Boxing. He can apply anywhere also. Golf, Tennis, Cricket. No one will care.

The network will just say “That’s Max Kellerman from HBO. Yes, give him a contract, asap. Give him a good salary as well. We want to make sure we keep him”.
It’s their resume/name. I doubt DAZN cares too much about absolutely having only boxing “experts” there. Just like a job you don’t necessarily qualify for, but you know how to sell yourself to the employer, you can still get the job.
I agree with you. And it would be very convenient to just have former boxers/boxing trainers/former boxing judges or even just announcers who just specialize in boxing, at ringside. I agree with you but I am just answering your question as to why DAZN would have Mannix there.
Kind of off topic:
I do find him vs Sergio Mora often times not-so-subtle, sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant trash talking to eachother a bit entertaining. You can tell Sergio Mora feels how we feel. He has to remain professional but he and Mannix throw a ton of jabs at eachother and I find it amusing how Mora is always taking shots at him for knowing little about boxing. And Mannix often times harasses Mora about his lack of power. Tonight it was on display too, more subtle but still got a chuckle out me. They stay going at it and I noticed it actually goes over my friends and wife head. So I look crazy chuckling to myself because I can tell when they’re ripping on eachother even subtly. Funny stuff.Comment

Mannix confirms he's a moron tonight is what this tells me.
He knows absolutely jack **** about boxing. Any anyone who thinks Saunders was winning that fight, YDKSAB.Comment

This thread is a reminder that you’re an idiot if you don’t score every second of a fight for Canelo.Comment

The difference is HBO wasn’t throwing to Kellerman and dissecting his round by round score. Max may have mentioned how he had it but he was the narrative guy.

Kellerman is a good comparison as he was really there to talk about the fights narrative. Mannix can absolutely be in that role as the skills translate and he can talk to the casual fan. But Kellerman also covered boxing before he went to HBO. Mannix has talked NBA for Yahoo and SI. Not saying he can’t be on a boxing broadcast and bring something to it.
The issue is when they throw to Mannix and he says he’s scored it 4-2 for BJS and the other commentators are like “oh my that’s interesting!” when that score is a wide outlier and irrelevant. It’s amateurish at best and hurt the broadcast.
They brought in Roy Jones Jr. and don’t get his round by round score? Guarantee you he would have it similar to the judges score at the time of the stoppage based on his comments and has a history with this.
You would have a hard time finding someone with relevant experience scoring fights that would have brought that into the broadcast.Comment
