From what I heard if you don't lose 'um in the ring you get to keep 'um. That's why they are still able to carry them to ring etc. But if you do lose the title in the ring, that belt goes to the winner... or something like that :-/

It's not like these belts cost a million to make. They don't even look that good.

they'd look better than anything you've ever seen if you had to go through your whole life training to win one..those belts mean more than life to these fighters

Once a fighter wins a title, they keep the actual title belt because they have to pay for it. The sanctioning fees they pay don't cover the cost of the belt. They have to pay a separate fee after they win the title to have their own championship belt made, so even if they lose the title, they keep their personal championship belt because it is essentially a trophy. If a title changes hands in the ring, the new champion will get to hold the belt temporarily until after they return to the dressing room. Then the champion's belt is given back to him and the new champ has to pay to have one made for him.

You may not have noticed it, but some fighters come to the ring carrying every championship belt they have ever had, including lower tier belts like the NABF belt. That is the equivalent of an Olympic track medalist wearing their medals to a track meet.
