I don’t have a clue tbh. I like the travellers though, generally friendly people, they have an undeserved reputation IMO.

Roma are originally from India, Travellers are genetically Irish. They are both called Gypsies because of their nomadic lifestyle of traveling in Caravans. Both are discriminated against by the mainstream population, but the Roma are by far more heavily discriminated in Europe. Travellers in America probably fit into the mainstream Irish population to avoid decrimination, they don't look different.

Like other posters said Roma originate from Northern India and moved across Europe about 1000 years ago. They have large communities in the Balkans and the arrived in the UK also.

Billy Joe Saunders is from this community. He’s a Romanichal gypsy which is a Romani sub group. So he isn’t Irish.

Tyson Fury is Irish Traveller. Snatch type gypsy. They also live nomadic lifestyle but culturally different. Predominantly Catholic, big weddings etc. They don’t originate from India .
