On Canelo’s watch a you tuber brought more attention and eyes to boxing than he did. He has his little cult following but it’s not translating into ppv/membership buys the way boxing’s top star should.

He just sold 70,000 tickets at the Dallas Cowboys stadium. In the middle of a pandemic.

He's the only true star power in boxing at the moment. But he can't fight every month, all other fighters are failing to hold up their end which is why these old boxer and YouTube exhibitions are filling the void.

I just wish the sport would go back 20 or 30 years to the days of old and we could see the fights the fans yell for instead of the social media matches that never happens
Hardcore fans are disappearing because the best guys in every division have made it a point to take several years to face each other, if ever. Spence and Crawford still have not fought. Wilder and Joshua will now likely never fight. Look at how long Mayweather-Pacquiao took. Look at how long Alvarez - Golokin took. People get bored of waiting 3-5 years for 2 guys to fight after 1 or both of them are past their best, and get tired of being charged $80-$100 for it.

The reality is that LDBC world miss Floyd being the status quo, (African American) reppin it as P4P #1. That’s why the propaganda is heavy throughout YouTube to discredit the idea that a Mexican could be P4P #1.

look at the Oscar’s in the last decade, Mexican director’s winning like Canelo. For me personally, nothing wrong with acknowledging that Mexicans have a unique culture. I mean Sicario was gangsta too. Canelo holding it down against gangsters capturing his brother… these unique stories help push the sport.

Canelo vs Golovkin took 18 months to make after he vacated the first WBC belt

Look at the top 25 fighters. Canelo is the only one that fights frequently and faces credible, if not elite, opposition each time out. The only fighter that comes close is Dillian Whyte.

Boxing has so many problems, from big to small and there is zero action on any of them. I watch UFC over boxing unless it is a fight like Valdez-Berchelt. I'll get Canelo-Saunders. After that, there's nothing on the schedule that is interesting.

Let me in on a little secret, with the exception of the NFL, no sport is what is what it used to be in the U.S, but boxing is and will remain one of the biggest sport on the planet, that's why boxers and soccer players are some of the biggest paid athletes in the world. Just because white kids from the burbs in the U.S do not watch boxing, does not mean the sport is in ruff shape. In the U.S popularity is based on how many white people watch, and never give any credit to things popular with a non-white audience. I'm white, but I so see the B.S that goes on.
Well you're ***ish, not white. And what PPV numbers are you talking about??? Floyd - Pac was an outlier because the fight was 5 years past its sell by date and it had crossed over to casuals well before it actually happened. Outside of that, the PPV numbers have been pretty dismal compared to the 90's and early 00's. The sport is in decline in this country, especially relative to the rise of MMA. There are a variety of reasons for it, but there's no question about it.

I'd like to see articles calling out other fighters to start doing the same.
through rigged scorecards, rehydration clauses, steroid abuse, not giving opponents enough time to prepare, having WBC in his pocket etc etc

live gate doesn’t translate into big money or actual views on television which is where the real money is made. So getting a good turnout in Texas as a Mexican isn’t a huge deal when we’re talking overall appeal. His ppv/dazn membership buys have been underwhelming and he hasn’t created the buzz that these other events have. He’s a star yes, but Oakes in comparison to past real stars.

He gets big crowds in Vegas too.

He be killing it on PPV as well but that is not the DAZN model.

I was in the Alamodome in 2013 when Canelo faced Trout to set up the Mayweather fight.
A young guy like him selling out a football sized stadium showed he was one of the biggest stars then. Despite boxing taking a backseat to major sports he has still maintained his following.
That’s why Billy Hoe’s threat to walk was absurd. Those 70k weren’t there to see him. Plug another fighter in and the event still sells .
