I have said this many times before. These commissions are hypocritical af. They claim to want to do anything about stopping deaths including making up ****** rules & early stoppages, yet they continue to sanction "fights" between boxers & novices in circus matchups. Does not compute
Canelo Alvarez has warned Logan and Jake Paul they 'could be killed' if they continue boxing, and he has criticised the athletic commissions for granting them boxing licenses

Stop it. First off, the Daily Star fumbled the information and Bensinger’s subtitles were a bit off too.

Bensinger asked him about YouTubers or celebrities being granted permission. Bensinger specifically mentioned “you saw what happened to Nate Robinson?” Canelo acknowledged that incident to say everything that is mentioned, that the commissions shouldn’t be granting celebs or YouTubers licenses… it’s a dangerous sport and one could die in boxing… he wasn’t specifically saying anything about the Paul Brothers. Canelo wanted the public to respect and understand the sport of its realistic dangers.

for example if Nate Robinson had fallen backwards and hit his head like Patrick Day and become in vegetative state would Canelo have made his point clear about commissions granting licenses?

If they get into the ring with a prime top 10 boxer, they could very well suffer permanent injuries or worse. Boxing is not basketball or baseball. That said, if they are accepting the risks, and matched properly, there is no reason they can't continue to earn big money. I just don't think their fights should be sanctioned nor do I think they should jump to the head of the line for title shots. Keep them as exhibitions.

It’s ironic, but in my opinion with “professional” boxing means there should discriminatory rules for a somewhat minimum amateur background. Technically going “pro” stems from the ams.

i don’t even mind these exhibitions since it’s good for the sport, but the organizations or promoters backing it should be creative and make custom extra padded 20oz+ gloves since they’re only 4 rounders anyways. Gloves are easily customized anyways. With the amount of money in these events it’s of no inconvenience

They just need to category these fights as something else. Like call it Celebrity Boxing or something and remove the term "Professional" from the matches. There is not much anything professional about them.

Bigger gloves won't prevent injuries, especially not in a four rounder where a young fighter won't tire out so easily. Gloves are meant to protect your hands, not your opponent's head. So long as they aren't matching Logan Paul against Usyk or Beterbiev, he should be able to accept the risk of fighting retired fighters or MMA guys. Though there is still potential for him to get hurt against Mayweather, despite a youth and size advantage. It's on him if he wants to accept that risk so long as it's not a sanctioned fight.

I don't know about Logan Paul but Jake Paul has been training with BJ Flores and he sparred Jean Pascal. He may be fighting nobodies but he's legitimately taking the training aspect of boxing seriously and he could actually be a decent prospect with 5-8 more fights, slowly ramping up the competition as he goes along (maybe another MMA dude next, then a few bum boxers, then a few journeymen boxers).
