what does where they’re at now have to do with the topic? We’re talking about how canelo looks like shet vs boxers and mainly looks impressive vs slow plodders. Canelo is 6 years away from that and has repeatedly said he wants to be retired at that age. A retirement age mayweather washed a 23 year old canelo. That’s pathetic and shameful. He could’ve at least made it competitive.

there have been several guys who have less skill than canelo who have looked better than canelo has against common opponents. Carlos Molina and Hurd did better vs Lara. Trout who lost to canelo did better vs Cotto than canelo did. Maidana and Cotto did better vs mayweather then canelo did. I actually think Derveyenchenko did better vs ggg than canelo did and rosado actually did just about the same vs Jacobs as canelo did. So it’s not just about skill. Canelo mainly looks good vs basic plodders. As far as your comparisons with mayweather and srr, those are hypothetical matches. Mayweather actually fought canelo at 36 and schooled him. And canelo didn’t stop at saying he’s win, he went a step further by saying mayweather wouldn’t want anything to do with him. That’s why he sounds ridiculous.

I agree that saying Mayweather would not want anything to do with him is a bridge too far. Each fight is a unique event. That is why rematches are not an identical replay of the first fight. And I get that Canelo is off-putting to some here and in Mexico as well. He lacks the charm and charisma of many previous champs and he does seem cold and aloof, but I am impressed with his discipline and single-mindedness. For a kid who was selling popsicles in the street at age 7 to help support his family and not having more than a grade-school education to have achieved global stardom is impressive. Sometimes it is people's shortcomings more than their virtues that help them achieve the top rung of success.
