  • Comments Thread For: Chris Arreola: Andy Ruiz Should Worry About His Boxing Not His Physique

VAN NUYS, Calif. -- The battle of the big men between Andy Ruiz and Chris Arreola could immediately become a weighty issue if either fighter shows up out of shape when they square off May 1 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. on FOX Sports pay per view.

You can be fat and sloppy looking and still fight good, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. A fighter should get in the best condition possible for themselves and whatever they weigh at that point, is their best fighting weight. Anything less is just excuses for overeating and being lazy. If u can grab a handful of fat on both sides of your stomach, and you have over hang in the front, you're not at your best fighting weight, no matter how you try to justify it

Train hard for boxing and the physique will come.

This is a big misconception, naturally born fat people don’t have to eat a lot to maintain being fat if they have a fat gene . All his siblings and mother are very over weight . Eating less also can excell weight gain by the bodies own distribution of cortisol which releases stress hormones and estrogen .

Simply put you can’t actually judge who is in bad shape by grabbing a little fat , Ruiz without surgery or illegal fat burners will not have a skinny waist or tight oblique muscles .

250 is probably the lightest he should be because that’s his natural make up at least at the age he is now .

Look at Foreman in the second comeback fight he was once lean but as he aged he was mocked still for being the fat guy, no one worked harder then him maybe beyond Holyfield and Foreman arguably was the hardest to tire out .

There's always exceptions in boxing. If you're fat with a special talent, you'll look good until you run into someone who is really in shape. Buster Mathis Sr was big and light on his feet and was faster than much smaller men. But he ran into Joe Frazier who was lean and in top shape and he gassed and was eventually knocked out. Foreman later in his career was heavy but he still had all time great power and a lot of experience. Then He ran into Holyfield and he went the distance but he was severely punished. Two ton Tony Galento was fat and he put a lot of people to sleep b4 he ran into Max Baer and Joe Louis, two lean dudes in top shape. James Toney at a higher weight was still super skilled. But whenever he lost, it was always because he was outworked because he was carrying too much around the middle. These guys had something that stood out- exceptional speed, power or skill.. In general, too much excess fat will slow you down and make you tire faster. Buster Douglas got lean and was able to whip tyson who was out of shape. He blew up in weight afterwards and in his next fight against Holyfield, who was ALWAYS in tip top condition, you saw the outcome.

He does actually have pretty good skills though, and naturally quick hands and obviously a Mexican chin.
