But again....MIXED martial arts. If Ben Askren is a good enough wrestler that he can completely nullify someones stand up by just taking them down, why is it so crazy that he might be able to do well in MMA?

That's the point, you can be extremely low level and mediocre and still become champion in MMA.

To be fair, you said initially that this fight exposed the horrid stand up skills of MMA fighters. Askren was a champion, in a lower tier organization, because he was a great wrestler. He went 1-2 in UFC with it being close to 0-3.

Askren was a good MMA guy in spite of his stand up. You can still be a great fighter without great stand up. It's hard, but if you're a great wrestler/grappler etc it's possible. Some guys have good hands. Conor did well against Floyd for a while, Lobov and Mir did OK vs their guys too. Just different sports.

It's rather mind boggling and embarassing that Paul gets more pay per view buys than Crawford and Spence fights, and than the Fury-Wilder rematch.

Then again, it's not regular boxing fans that buy the ppv's of the Paul brothers, or the Triller shows for that matter.

I dont think its helping boxing long term at all because most of the people tuning in to these freakshows arent sticking around to watch actual serious fights. If they insist on continuing with the novelty fights I wish they'd at least package it together as like a double header or whatever with big real boxing matches so the casuals tuning in would potentially see something to make them hang around. Prograis/Redkach aint gonna do it, a Fury, Spence, Canelo, Wilder etc fight bundled together with this ****** **** in the co-main might.
