  • Comments Thread For: Porter on Facing Conor Benn: I Don't Think There's Much To Gain For Me

Former two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter has issued a warning to rising contender, Conor Benn. Last Saturday night, Benn (18-0) stopped the usually durable Samuel Vargas in a single round. After the fight, he called out several names - including Porter.

If it pays the bills, he might have to asnwer that call. As it is, nonoby is really looking to give Porter a lot of money for anybody. Now he's had covid, he might get the bad end of the stick with Long Covid symptoms and for a style like Porters, could be the end for him competitively.

They're not going to risk that fight for Conor.Notice hes calling for a fragile retired Amir Khan in reality.

Benn should be calling out Jarron Ennis. Ennis just had a huge win, now is the time to get these two prospect/contenders in the ring. If Ben is confident in himself like his father was he would push for that fight

Or Ortiz. But in reality he's not gonna call either guy out. Too much of a risk that they'd sign the contract and even go to the UK to expose him!

Like Mindgames correctly points out, he's actually calling for a washed up Amere Khon.

Yeah he did, when they interviewed him in Australia...

They are clearly looking for clever match making / name building opportunities as the priority... I find it interesting and telling that David Avanesyan hasn't been mentioned, he's ranked in the top 10 of all 4 organisations (top 5 in IBF & WBC) and is European champion, and has a deal with Hearn and just beat up Josh Kelly so Benn can really make a point domestically too. It ticks all the boxes, except for the 'easy win' and 'casual fan attention grabbing' box!

Exactly this. Benn has been navigated well and they have also developed his skills quite a bit since the Peynaud fight. A guy like Avanesyan is a true litmus test but that's a hard night in the ring and if there's something to expose he will do it. I don't blame Benn's team for trying to navigate the fighter, it is a business after all.

As for Porter, he is correct. At this juncture, Benn doesn't bring much to the table for him (unless there is a boatload of money) and I don't think Benn's team wants that smoke right now. Amir Khan will do nicely at this point.

Haha! My thoughts exactly. Johnny Nelson making ridiculous claims, it is as though he and Carl Froch try to outdo each other with their idiocy.

Benn shouldn’t be fighting Porter anytime soon. He’s should spend the next 18 months improving his skills fighting guys he should beat. European level/fringe world level
