Claressa Shields, yet another racebaiter? Or just racist?

Gutter scum Claressa Shields is now the latest in the long line of American fighters who have chosen to bring race in to things. She has labelled Savanna Marshall as a "great white hope"

I never saw Marshall v Shields as black v white, I did see it as Brit v American, or Brit v Duck seeing as she is likely to price her self out of this fight but for some reason the Afro Americans always want to drag it down in to a race thing.

Is there a psycological reason for this? Some fighters need to mentally picture their opposition is the enemy or evil to give them the drive in training. Is this how some Afro Americans choose to focus their drive? Do they focus on the colour of their opposition? We all remember fighters like Wilder and Hopkins making it about the black man beating the white man.

Shield Calling her a "great white hope" doesn't imply she is the racial enemy, she is evil, or Shields is focusing on her color. It isn't used to drive her training. It's trying to hype the fight. I think you are aware of this but have decided to take what she said and stretch this into the same dynamic as Hopkins and Wilder, which this doesn't seem to be.

This is a cheap way to bring attention to the fight that we agree shouldn't be used. I get that Shields has been trying to bring attention to Women's boxing in the hopes of raising her purses. This isn't the best way to achieve this IMO.

As diehard boxing fans we also know the term "great white hope" is talking about the phenomenon that occurs when fans give a clearly inferior fighter (like Marshall, Cooney, Jim Jeffries) a chance to beat a dominant champion (Shields, Holmes, Johnson) that they otherwise wouldn't.

Shields is near the top in every ranking of women boxers. I haven't seen Marshall ranked in any of the Women's rankings of top fighters. Shields is considered the much better fighter right now. But, to be fair, I should've posted perceived to be inferior since they haven't fought yet.

edit: I just went to ESPN and Marshall got 1 10th place vote while Shields is #1, not that ESPN rankings are valid but I do think it illustrates the vast difference in who many think is the better fighter.

Rankings aren’t being compared ,the fighter is .

Marshal is on par in skill and hits way harder , Shields will not look for that fight anytime soon .
