Shield Calling her a "great white hope" doesn't imply she is the racial enemy, she is evil, or Shields is focusing on her color. It isn't used to drive her training. It's trying to hype the fight. I think you are aware of this but have decided to take what she said and stretch this into the same dynamic as Hopkins and Wilder, which this doesn't seem to be.
This is a cheap way to bring attention to the fight that we agree shouldn't be used. I get that Shields has been trying to bring attention to Women's boxing in the hopes of raising her purses. This isn't the best way to achieve this IMO.
As diehard boxing fans we also know the term "great white hope" is talking about the phenomenon that occurs when fans give a clearly inferior fighter (like Marshall, Cooney, Jim Jeffries) a chance to beat a dominant champion (Shields, Holmes, Johnson) that they otherwise wouldn't.
You posted, "for some reason the Afro Americans always want to drag it down in to a race thing",-when you know this is just a cheap marketing ploy by Shields. You're the one dragging it down to a race thing by pretending Shields is making this into some quasi race war.
