It was too quick, but at the same time you can see why it got waved, his head was getting bounced all over and his legs went momentarily. Nonetheless the entire sequence was only about 10 seconds and Vargas looked fine within moments... tough vet who's survived the wars Vargas has shoulda been given the benefit of the doubt in my mind though.Comment

I imagine future opponents will be looking for the quick start off Benn, think Vargas just wasn't expecting to be jumped on like that and was maybe a little cold. Difficult to know what to take from it, but I'm under no illusions that Conor suddenly turned into superman overnight... solid win but more to do with the surprise factor than anything else. He did show good agression and handspeed though but whether he could have sustained that kinda pace is another question entirely.Comment

same situation as Jacobs/Quillin, actually. And Quillin was rocked but I believe still able to go.

I guess fans need to make up their mind, if they're going to be mentally paralyzed by the risk of a fighter ending up like Abdusalamov, or if they want to give fighters a change to potentially go on to win a fight and come up from behind, like Algieri did with Provodnikov and Hagler did with Hearns.
Based on what I know of the sport, it's sustained beating that causes the most damage. Minimum 3 rounds of beating. Even Michael Watson had taken sustained punishment before the uppercut that put him down against Eubank - 22 brutal rounds against Eubank alone, and that's after all of the wars he had been in: Mike McCallum alone probably took 20 years off the man's life and Nigel Benn who it didn't last too long but still damage.
Sammy Vargas has been in wars, but when you have a situation like this where Benn was landing straight flush yet Vargas is still trying to evade...it makes you wonder, maybe the guy's just tough and should be given every chance to go out on his shield, like Humberto Soto.Comment

This is nothing more than another UK hypejob having a paid ref, especially because Benn is mediocre they felt it even more urgent to buy off the ref,if Benn had any other last name he wouldn't be the ww version of Chavez Jr,& he wouldn't be Undefeated let alone have such a padded resume. That was 100% a bs stoppage as we've seen from countless Hearn fighters especially in the Uk,Andrade too got a bs stoppage vs Akavov so we couldn't see the scorecards where he likely won every rd before the fight even started. Benn is being protected ever since he was almost kod by a bum.Comment

Its a tough one. I felt it was a bit too early, I felt like Vargas was taken by surprise more than anything, it was the 1st substantial assault in the fight.
But a ref has a set of guide lines to rule by and Vargas was getting his head bounced around, putting up a minimal defence at most, wasn't fighting back and wasn't in the middle of trying to get off the ropes. He needed to show the ref something and he just wasn't.Comment
