The Ring belt USUALLY follows the linear title path, but not always, and Vitali got it for fighting Kirk Johnson, who was a top 5 heavyweight, but not the number 2 heavyweight at the time. It was the only time the Ring gave it's belt to a non champion in the heavyweight ranks. Right now, the Light Heavyweight linear champion in Zsolt Erdei, however he obviously isn't the ring champion, but he is THE CHAMPION at LHW. Well, at least until he fights someone with a pulse.

Vitali won the RING title by beating Corey Sanders, who was #3 at the time. That's more than just a titleist as you said before. That means he was the undisputed heavyweight champ. The statement you made was completely and utterly incorrect, I just felt the need to set it straight. Vitali was the best heavyweight in the world from the time He fought Lennox up until he retired. You just don't know. And in reality, he deserved lineage in my opinion when Lennox declined a rematch to the fight he was losing when he pulled out the win on a cut/tko.
