Why didn’t Garcia just fight Haney?

FTR, I don’t really rate Haney at all and would confidently pick Garcia by KO.

But what I don’t understand is why fight Fortuna when you were already mandatory/interim champ. It makes no sense. Why fight the guy behind you in the rankings instead of the guy that holds the belt.

Too much of a risk. Even if Team Garcia fancy their chances the odds are not strong enough. Its all about popularity and fame and a loss takes a hit on the popularity and fame.

Ryan was promising Pacquiao and Tank, he’s brought it on himself.

I don’t think it’s a bad matchup, Fortuna is a decent fighter I just don’t understand why you’d rather fight in another eliminator when you could’ve just fought for the title. As I said very strange decision.

Haney vs Garcia could have definitely been made prior to that announcement though. Not network politics, the WBC were behind the fight and Garcia-Haney would have taken precedence over Linares-Haney. The winner of Garcia-Campbell was meant to face Haney. I just think it’s pretty illogical how it’s all panned out.
