Comments Thread For: Ortiz, Hooker Reflect On Local Rivalry, Remain In Support Of One Another

When all was said and done, Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Maurice Hooker resumed being two friendly rivals from the greater Dallas area. The pair of welterweights engaged in an entertaining battle in front of a lively local crowd, with Ortiz prevailing via 7th round stoppage this past Saturday at ****ies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both fighters were generally respectful of one another throughout the buildup and all the way through the weigh-in, even after Ortiz initially missed weight before rectifying the matter at the scale less than 30 minutes later.

Nice sentiments. Hooker probably needs to drop down a couple of levels & get some 'Ws'. Then he can try a last surge of his career.

It looks like Ortiz is gonna be fast-tracked into either Crawford or Spence. TBH they look too much, too skilled but you never know. Man can hit definite.

Always like to see this level of respect between fighters. It was an entertaining fight and it was awesome to hear the live crowd again.

That's peace! Vergil is easy to like! He's nothing like KingRy, Tank, and Teofimo!

Too bad Hooker took it out on the crowd. Ortiz is the one who beat on him. I'm not saying peace is not good, just that last bit of anger was misdirected.

Hooker seems like a good dude & smart about this sh^t. All these mofos out here taking L's like babies these days, but he's taking his like a man. And I mean thats the fooking game. Someone is walking out a winner & someone is walking out a loser every fight. Its rough, but thats the reality these guys have taken on with this career. Not taking an L like its a death of who you are or were before you lost isn't a good look. Just gotta keep it moving forward & correct the mistakes you can correct to making it harder for guys to give you another L in the future.

This is just great to see, proud of these young American pugilists showing support for each other. Let this stand as a lesson to the rest of America
