I think Ortiz is closer to Crawford then you guys think, he showed a good chin and subtle defense to go with the out of this world offense. I'd say he's only 2 or 3 fights from being ready for Crawford imo

Vergil Ortiz is the truth. Hooker was going to be laid out. I don't know what injury Hooker has but he was taking serious punishment. I thought Ortiz won every round except maybe 1. This kid is a problem for anyone at 147

No top guys will ever fight Ortiz until he becomes a mandatory, so he just has to keep fighting guys like this until a sanctioning body mandates a title fight for him. Guys like Custio Clayton, Avanesyan and Mean Machine probably the types of guys he should be fighting this year

Still not impressed with either. Average skills overall. Action fight tho.

Looking at the WBO rankings...Ortiz should face someone like Avenesyan or Custio Clayton next.

I hope Ortiz continues to ascend because he's what boxing needs. He's a mixture of Mikey Garcia's style/technique with the brutality of guys like Rios/Matthysse/Maidana. He's quickly becoming one of my favorites.
