  • Based on that showing from Beterbiev.
Bivol beats him by decision, if the fight ever gets made.

Because Bivol never had an average fight, right ? Chilemba comes to mind ...

Let's see how Bivol fairs after also 1,5 year of inactivity against "average" Richards on May 1st...

I still think that Beterbiev will beat him "a-la-Gvodzyk " ... Trading rounds before beating him into submission ...

You also have to factor in the ring rust for Beterbiev.

Yeah, I give the 17 month lay-off and his age as the main reason this was not a vintage "KO" performance. Also, ever notice when a fighter returns home as a main event star after being away for a long stretch of their career they tend to be a little lackluster? Also, let us give Deines a little credit. He threw some nice combinations to keep Beterbiev honest. He never hurt him, and Artur just walked him down. But Deines showed some skill in there.

Overall, as a Beterbiev fan I enjoyed the fight. I am excited for the Smith fight. That could be a seriously fun tussle.

I am STILL 100% all in on Beterbiev/Bivol as a popcorn worthy unification, and I agree with you: I still think Beterbiev works him down over the later rounds.

I am very curious how Bivol will look as well. He is a different kind of boxer, so ring rust may look a little different on him.

              • So, it was not a mismatch at all.

                • I remember when I was called crazy for suggesting Stevenson or Dawson could beat Beterbiev.

Deines landed more than a few punches on Beterbiev, and he's nowhere near as slick as Dawson or hard-hitting as Stevenson.

I keep hearing excuses like Beterbiev had COVID, or he was rusty. No, he's just not that good.

Lol, American commentators are either complete shills or utterly devoid of objectivity. Kellerman, Ward etc, better to mute the volume and watch the fight.

Yeah... 100% KO rate. 2 belt holder. Won every round. Never took a step back, was never hurt, fight never in doubt. But because he did not blow out an experienced "B" level fighter after a year and a half off from the ring as fast as everyone said he should, he is overrated. Obviously.

Good Lord forgive anyone for having only a "great" night as opposed to a "dominate" night, because that means he would lose all kinds of other hypothetical matches that did not happen. Which, by the way, those guys in their prime could very well beat Beterbiev. Their skill sets line up nicely to giving him fits. But Beterbiev truly motivated and focused could easily dominate either one. This is not the 175 pound version of Wilder, unable to box and completely dependent on his power. He is solid in counterpunching, has decent movement, and makes up for only fair defense by being made of completely chiseled stone. Not overrated. Not perfect and beatable by a great boxer, sure. Getting older and maybe a hair slower than 2 years ago, yep. But this dude is a beast and should be the favorite in any match-up until someone actually beats him.
