  • [REDDIT] "Uber has taken a big hit since Berlanga started fighting their top drivers."

In response to Berlanga fighting Nicholson.

Let's solve this once and for all.

Is Berlanga beating bums/overhyped too early?

He's just taking the Deontay Wilder route.

Seems like Top Rank is doing the GGG playbook. Aside from fighters “not wanting to fight,” we know these opponents don’t get offered much to begin with so many just dip out. With Berlanga, pandemic pay cuts, ESPN ain’t writing checks for these guys to jump on. I think Yildirim’s purse with Canelo could buy Berlanga’s current resume 20 times. That’s being generous too. Lol

hes fought less than 16 rounds as a pro. never been out of round 1. he is still a novice in every sense of the word, even if he's got a better highlight reel than a lot of contenders and world champions. i doubt very much he's a big enough puncher or an elite enough talent to win world titles and have a long career without developing first. i expect him to get a lot of the hype that punchers get. and if they don't start to put him in there with guys who can give him rounds he will have lots of the same flaws you see from guys like wilder, tyrone brunson, and others with side show type records with early knockouts.

that said, he had a very respectable amateur career, close to 200 fights. if he is brought along properly in the next year or two he can learn and have a better shot of being more than a flash in the pan with heavy hands.

BUT, will he end up another Felix "Boxing's Next Cotto" Verdejo with the premature hype?

Worse, he might even end like another Tyrone Brunson.

lmao... that's funny but true.. berlanga talking like he was a real monster. he was overhyped and overrated.. should be fighting a caliber fighter.. let's see if he can continue his 1st round win streak.
