I always felt leonard won the rounds more clearer than hagler....leonard was up 5 rounds after the 6th round.....with rounds 1,2,3,4,6 for sugar ray... hagler took the 5th.....then hagler won rounds 7,8,9....leonard then got a 2nd wind and won the 10th and put a stamp on it with a masterful 11th round......no one one ever really hurt hagler so the excuse that leonard punches had little effect also applies to 99% of the other fighters who faced hagler and also to the fact leonard was also naturally 2 weights below hagler.
rounds 6,9 and 11 leonard traded evenly with him and pretty much took everything hagler through at him.
hagler was a brilliant box fighter and people think he was a just a tough come forward beast but hagler was much more than that....best switch hitter of all time , brilliant counter puncher who was at his best when the fighter pressed him and his performance against sibson was brutal and he sliced him up like a surgeon going to work on an operating table.
haglers achilles was actually boxers and slick fighters and leonard used his natural ability to outbox him.
I grew up in the 80’s and hagler was the most intimidating and hardest MF to ever lace up the gloves.
Such a sad moment when I heard he died yesterday and he was taking away to early.

Absolutely. There is no way in hell to give Hagler that fight

I don't think I'm really qualified to say who won I've seen the fight once, when it happened and wanted srl to win and thought he did enough to win at the time

He gave away first 4 rounds and lost the 9th and 12. Those are the fire sure facts. I couldn’t give hagler anything more than a draw.

My view is that there were plenty of clear SRL rounds within the first half of the fight. Nothing to that point was clearly to Hagler, though you could potentially find one or two. You almost find yourself looking for signs from Hagler that would allow you to give him a round.

Definitely a tough fight to score. Part of it is just what sort of work you prefer. But definitely no robbery.
My rbr scoring is in the linked post.

And that was my point. I had SRL winning 7-5, but at least 3 of those 7 rounds I gave SRL I specifically noted as close rounds that could have tipped the fight the other way. Hence its not a robbery. It was a fight either guy woulda won.

The only point I might be in disagreement with you on is you saying there was "nothing...was clearly Hagler". I don't think clearly has anything to do with it. I had MMH winning 5 rounds & 3 SRL rounds were close. So its completely feasible to me that it coulda been 8-4 MMH. Hence either guy coulda won the fight in my mind. SRL just happened to win the fight. And I'd assume the official judges probably had numerous close rounds as well. And if they had went this way or that way either guy coulda won the fight. Robbery's only happen when its not even a serious or reasonable argument both guys coulda won the fight. That was not the case here.

Like most on here I've watched the fight multiple times and always tried to be open minded every time, but I've never given Hagler the win.
Leonard just out boxed him, punches have to be solid enough to score not to rock an opponent every time they land a shot.
