However, he fought hard and with passion being 36 yrs. old. I think we may have saw the beginning of a star in Kyrone Davis at 26, in his first fight at 168. This fight may tell us more when we look back on it in a few years. Given these guys ages and point in their respective careers, this fight had passion, was well fought by both, ebbed and flowed, and showed flashes of the greatness in both fighters. Depending on where Kyrone goes from here, this fight tells a lot. It was a respectable note on a decent career by Dirrell, who still fought with skill and fire at 36.

Every NFL or NBA game that is shown on TV isn't memorable, so neither will every boxing match. For true fans though, there will be glimpses of things that become important later ... in terms of understanding and evaluating fighters, their tendencies, and worthiness in contests against others. Invaluable stuff for real fans.

We live in a time now where every event is measured against the best similar events of all time ... and it's just not fair. The attention span and interest level of people now is only affected if they believe they are watching a historic affair. Says a lot about the people watching. History is always built on small pieces that most overlook. Only on analyses later on, are the components of history understood by many. These fights (that are being knocked) are pieces of the history to come.
Great post and really enjoyed the insight on small pieces of history painting the big picture in the end. I thought the main event was an interesting fight as well. While I don't usually watch Dirrell, I just had a feeling he would struggle in this fight even though I had never seen Davis. I was pleasantly surprised by Davis's boxing ability. I was expecting a come-forward swarming style and not the patient boxing he delivered last night. Well-balanced footwork. Definitely someone to keep an eye on in the future.

I mean according to Coppinger the budget for FOX has not changed. You can put on a better main event than Dirrell vs Davis. There's always talks about missing out on live gates, but most of them do 100-200k gates tops anyways. So I'm not trying to hear that as an excuse. If it is for a big fight? Then sure, you can say Wilder/Fury was impacted big time as the first fight did like a 17M gate and that would have been missed with limited crowds. But FOX should be putting on better cards period.

I don't mind the SHO cards as much. They released a very competitive schedule last fall and Leo/Fulton was a very good match up on paper and I didn't mind the Broner card either. People had unrealistic expectations for a guy that had been out for over two years and had not won in about four years. The fight they ended up making ended up being competitive anyways. And the other two fights on paper weren't bad either.

You're assuming that Haymon is interested in continuing business as usual during the pandemic when the evidence shows that is clearly not the case; your quote from Coppinger just reinforces that fact.

PBC has the budget to put together a big schedule of fights, but they've clearly decided to put their operations at the bare minimum for now.

I'm just pointing out that better fights can be made on FOX, that's all. Whatever reason Haymon or FOX has is fine, doesn't mean it's good for the viewing public. We have actually started to see a trend from FOX even pre-pandemic that the cards they put on regular FOX are setups for PPV match ups or just flat out not great match ups. Go back to early 2020 before the pandemic and of the fights that were being mentioned.

But I assume FOX and SHO will soon release their upcoming schedule. We know Ruiz is likely fighting Arreola, Kownacki vs Helenius II, Wilder vs Martin, Spence probably fights Ugas, Davis will be fighting in the summer and then you have the Charlos.

Seems Fox is on it's way out.
Last time it was Luis Ortiz effortlessly stopping a cab driver in few simple dancing steps.
And the fight was over. All those introductory presentations leading up to the fight
rendered by a distinguished host and commentators were all like utter waste of time.

Ortiz is now on a long vacation. For what? For injuries?
He could have fought the next day, yet we're not hearing anything about his next fight.
            This is a horrible sport.
