and yeah, my statement is true. as it is true that death penalty has no deterrent effect. it's never had any in any 1st world countries, that's why only about 3 of them still have death penalty.

really? unless you think that you know more than doctors and experts on this, you're pretty much alone in thinking that it has any deterrent effect whatsoever
Have you ever been to a place like Singapore or Dubai? If you think they spread fear you are mistaken. You can do whatever you want, and you have nothing to fear at all, unless you want to carry out a murder, or a robbery, then you will get dealt with. Scaring criminals is a good thing.

Exactly. Is not spreading fear amongst anyone but people with criminal intent.

At which point you get your hand sliced off.

Swift, pure, direct and to the point.

      True justice.

And yes, I believe that within a criminal justice system legitimate fear is a necessity.

Without it, society descends into barbarism. Much like you see in the United States and the rest of the so called civilized world.

Criminals know that they will get counseling and a slap on the wrist rather than real dire circumstances for their actions.

My nuclear deterrent was a classic example of how fear is effective. But you ignored it.

I've addressed the bold already giving you two real world examples where it works pretty damn well.
the only two examples you gave aren't from countries considered first world. in the lost of countries considered "first world", only USA, korea and japan have death penalty, and they practice it much, much less than in the USA. if you really think that spreading fear makes so much sense and USA is so barbaric, then i encourage you to go and establish yourself in those advanced countries you mention

i ignored your example because i don't agree with having a **** load of nuclear weapons to be some kind of force in this world. that's one of the reasons the USA spends close to 50% of the total capital they have on national security and weapons development, because of how many enemies they're having. i don't think that's effective as you call it, especially now that we have a huge economic crisis

but yeah, there's no point in arguing with someone that is convinced that living in fear helps society. we'll just have to disagree on that instead of wasting even more time on this. take care

You ******** are so hypocrytical. First you say the death penalty is so immoral because it's murder and cruel, but then justify keeping someone imprison for life cause it's a WORSE punishment. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW idiot. It cost more for a life sentence than a execution. Do some research before you open your ******* sewer hole.

Finally, while i'm glad they'll face the long sleep, I almost guarentee these two will get life w/no parole. Forrest chased them with a gun after the robbery; you know there defense lawyers will convince a jury that they were scared for their lives....sad, but true

Not agreeing with it doesn't make it go away. I wasn't using as an endorsement of nuclear proliferation rather to illustrate that force can be a force for peace when used as a lethal deterrent.

Singapore not a developed nation? What are you smoking bro? Singapore is much much more wealthy than Peurto Rico, and just as small. Forget PR Singapore has a higher GDP per capita than the USA, Canda, and Britain. It gas the fifth highest GDP per capita in the world. It's considered first world.
