Houston, We’ve Got A Problem With Your Scoring

Tonight, I am embarrased to call myself a boxing fan. What else can you ask the guy to do. He went into Houston, weighed 138.5 pounds, fought in a small ring, took little money to fight Juan Diaz, and won the fight. Does he have to win every round of the fight to get the win? The judges should be embarrased. Golden Boy Promotions should be embarrased. Max Kellerman, for his very biased post-fight interview, should be embarrased. As much as I love boxing, this is why boxing is considered a niche sport. Malignagi should be getting a good fight at 140, maybe for a belt. Diaz should be trying to save his career with a much need win. Instead, Paulie has to settle for any fight he is offered, and Juan Diaz will get to call out guys at 140 to come to Houston. I have gained much respect for Malignagi over the last few days. And have lost much for Golden Boy Promotions who clearly made it impossible for Malignagi to win this fight no matter what he did. Tonight is a black eye for boxing and I am truly embarassed to call myself a boxing fan tonight.Comment

By Jake Donovan - Former junior welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi spent all week talking of how the deck was stacked against him heading into Saturday’s fight with Juan Diaz at the Toyota Center in Diaz’ hometown of Houston, Texas.
His worst fears were confirmed by night’s end, when a nip-and-tuck affair in the eyes of many somehow turned into a lopsided decision for Diaz in the HBO-televised main event.
Scores were 115-113, 116-112 and an absurd 118-110 in a bout that was fought at a contracted catchweight limit of 138 ˝ lb.
Both fighters fought according to the script in the opening round, with Diaz looking for a war while Malignaggi used speed and movement to neutralize the attack. The plan worked greatly in the Brooklynite’s favor, throwing more than 100 punches in the round and tripling Diaz’ number of connects.
It wasn’t without its setbacks, however; an errant right hand by Diaz after the bell (which predictably went undetected by referee Laurence Cole) opened a cut over Malignaggi’s left eye. The blood motivated the hometown fighter, who came out roaring in the second, much to the delight of the crowd. [details]Comment

Man if I was Paulie i would have cried. But Paulie did the right thing by putting GBP, the corrupted judges, and boxing in general on blast.
We all know you won Paulie, keep your head up man.Comment

For real, who is down for boycotting HBO and golden boy for this. I love boxing but I wish I was an MMA fight tonight. Terrible. This coming from a Juan Diaz fan. This cannot stand!!!! Kellerman's monologue was the worst thing I have ever heard. Justifying marketplace as the reason why a figher should win; in that case forget fights and lets just vote for the most popular figher American Idol style. I will not buy or watch any golden boy card. They are done!! And anybody who does is a ****ing loser.Comment
