The main problem with the negotiations between Hopkins vs Jones Jnr is the purse split. Jones says 60% to the winner and 40% to the loser. But Hopkins is after 60% for himself to begin with, leaving Roy with only a 40% share. However, Hopkins makes an interesting point which I think Roy Jones Jnr should consider. At this particular point in time, Hopkins is generally considered the better fighter.
Most people have Hopkins in their current p4p list, but most don't rate Roy Jones Jnr as a current p4p any longer. It's true that Roy Jones did beat Hopkins and for that reason he probably feels he deserves the lions share, so to offer a 60 winner/40 loser deal is already a big compromise on his part. But is that a fair way of evaluating the current deal? Isn't it better to accept that Hopkins is considered the better fighter today?
For the sake of this fight happening, thinking about the current status of each fighter, I think Roy should accept the 40/60 deal. On a side note, if Roy won, Hopkins might ask for a rematch and accept a 40% share next time. It could happen if the 2nd fight sells well enough. What do you think?
