Where did the Paul Williams hype all begin?

Williams is elite. Williams is a skilled big man, who has great handspeed, great chin, lateral movement and great boxing IQ. Williams will beat everyone from 147 to 160. Go throught the SMW tournament undefeated and exposed Dawson/Hopkins at 175

But Quintana lost to Cotto by a 5th round TKO and clearly isn't a top 10 material either! That's my point. He just knows how to fight against big guys obviously.

would he still be all hype if he were to beat Pavlik? or would you say that Pavlik was way over hyped also.

I would say Pavlik has an off night like Williams vs Quintana..


Frankly Id say he doesnt deserve to get a shot at Pavliks belts when there are other fighters who have worked their way up in the MW divison. Paul should have to fight the top MW contender and the winner should get Pavlik.

If he does beat Pavlik he proves hes more than just hype.

It's because of how avoided he was at welterweight. Margarito is the only big star that ever fought him and Margarito though well known was not a big star yet. He is is basically the new Winky Wright, a really tough fighter who is not worth the risk. When fighters are avoided they get overrated quick.

Margarito was also avoided but the hype and fanboy claims never got this out of hand

He is one of the most avoided fighters in the Welterweight division. He moved up to the middleweight division to get a big name fight. No I'm not speaking of Andy Kolle we all know that was a tune up match. Winky Wright was a big named fight and there's going to be some folks out there who say Winky Wright ah he's shot at 37 years old he just doesn't have it anymore. The fight went the distance as most of Paul Williams fights do. Now we have the Pavlik fight which Pavlik has pulled out of the fight. Who will Paul fight now seems to be the main question.

Have you been watching boxing he beat margarito 10-2 rounds in wich margarito probably cheated.Hes not hyped hes being talked about because he wants to fight everyone and he beat winky on the inside he doesn't use his height or reach advantage and he was the underdog people said if he fought in the inside he would lose.

No one really wants to take the risk of getting in the ring with Paul because of his work rate. I think he'll eventually be an elite fighter. But there are alot of elite fighters that would decrease his output or KO him from a counter punch. Paul does not have a defense from what I've seen. You don't make to the top and stay without a defense.

And an off night is a loss no matter what. He'd better not have an off night against Pavlik or B-hop, or whomever he fights because they'll put that ass to sleep.

Yes he has long arms and high work rate.

He pretty much had a clsoe fight with Margarito but got the decision and it wasnt till Margo defeated Cotto in a classic fight that Williams became this legendary boxing figure

Then he fights Quintana and clearly loses a decision
This loss is usually reffered to as a "poor showing" by the Punisher..a fluke.
and wins the rematch by 1st round stoppage, which is good.

I couldnt believe when Dan Raphael said "the smart money" would be on Williams in the Pavlik fight! Is it because of Pavliks rumored alcoholism? Then I can see his point but Williams hasnt faced top opposition so how is it smart to assume he can beat eveyone. He gets hit cleanly in every fight and never faced a puncher.

The version of Winky that Williams fought would have beaten Cotto and I'm saying that even though I like Cotto's style better than Winky's other than the times that he runs.
