Tiberi was robbed in his fight with Toney. "Belly's Out" received gift decisions in several other fights: Oquendo and clubfighter Batchelder, for example.

He twice got caught using steroids for title fights. Someone who's top 3 of the past 20 years wouldn't have needed steroids to beat Batchelder and Ruiz.
I'm just talking about pure technical abilities, for sure no way he's top 3 in accomplishments. I agree that he lost to guys who were not half of the fighter he is. James Toney is an enigma, he could one day be the best fighter in the world, next night he struggles with B level fighters.

Steroids were used because of his weight and body fat i think, Ruiz is way below Toney. Toney schooled him.

Toney, just because of his great career and him being a slick competitive heavyweight, deserve a shot at a Klitschko. David Haye is a joke as a heavyweight and avoided the fight like a coward. James Toney might have disappointed in the past with poor performances( Rahman I, Oquendo) but he never ducked any fighter.

Before the Peter fights I would have seen Toney as a legit challenge. The man is sturdy, skillful and has excellent defense. Obviously now he doesnt really stand a chance, but its something that should have happened at some point.

This is where your painful ignorance rears it's head

Toney has always been involved in many close fights, beacuse his style is a counterpunching one, and his style of defence means many punches roll off him or dont land clean, therefore you can sometimes get different opinions on how a few of his fights have played out, some think he is being outworked, others think he is countering effectively (which he is)

he also fought often early in his career, if you boxed you would know you accumulate wear and tear when you fight as often as james did early on in his career, you give a few bad performances

James may have sc****d a few close ones, but he's also been stiffed a bit (griffin fights, first peter fight)

those steriods were taken to help with injuries, he didnt need steroids to beat those guys (its not like the steroids he took improved his physique or anything), he whipped ruiz and given the skill disparity between the two theres no reason to suggest the fight would have played out any differently if he wasnt taking whatever he took

James plain fought like **** vs Batchelder, he was 38, fighting 60-70 pounds above what he began his career at....does anyone rag on duran for losing to guys like laing, gosh even your beloved W.Klitschko was knocked out 3x by mediocre fighters...fighters have shortcomings and bad performances
