To the causal fan, that is. I know most, if not all, of you would love a good undercard to go with a good main event. My question is, do casual fans even care about who is fighting in the undercard? Or do they just look at the main event, recognize a name fighter and buy the PPV in order to watch a KO?
Does a good undercard influence PPV buys?

Not when the only aspect of the fight that is marketed is just the headlining bout.
You have to market it as a CARD, not just a FIGHT. You have to sell the fact that not only are you getting the main bout for 49.99 but also a great undercard and undercards before that one. Its the PACKAGE that needs to be marketed, not just a single product.Comment

UFC would disagree with you. They're cards are always stacked with recognizable names. Of course, the fighters are paid less so that this can be done. We all know this would never happen in Boxing.Comment

The casual fan generally doesn't care. I've tried to convince friends in the past to watch certain undercard fights that had a lot of potential but the attitude seems to be that if they aren't familiar with the fighters, they aren't watching.Comment

If the main event is just solid yea it does because i need more solid undercard fights to order. But if it's a mega fight im buying either way. Either way it's better to have a great cardComment

I agree, but UFC is marketed a little differently and there seems to be a range of common fighters since everything is in house.
When I have a UFC match at my house, we all watch the entire card, or at least the 2nd half.
But boxing relies on it's super Mega event matches. The undercard is just used to warm up the crowd for the main event.Comment
