People who stay in shape can seem to fight for longer. But if I was an elite boxer, I'd rather enjoy my life with all the money I made. Hopkins has been going to bed at 8pm everyday, how boring would that be?

I agree with what the thread starter is saying. There's a difference between enjoying your food and being gluttonous.

Football players ( soccer), basketball players etc. have to stay in shape all year around granted it's not as extreme as boxers they generally stick to a diet. When you fight at a certain level you can't afford to have your diet as a liability.

That's also why Hopkins is where he is and you are where you are.

          You obviously aren't a boxer.

You have to make weight. Doing so you usually can't eat anything you like. none of your favorite foods. You can only eat at certain times. You can't party, nothing like that. After fight night you can. You start eating things you like and going out having fun and it just feels great.

It's very easy to understand if you have ever been through it. I'm going down to 125 right now for a tournament in September. Best believe after the tournament I'm going to eat all kinds of pizza, ice cream, etc and probably go back up to around 140.

I can understand doing this straight after the fight but if you continued to do to me that's signs of an undisciplined fighter.

It's not supposed to be easy, if it were easy no one would be out of shape. Boxing is a sport that requires a lot of discipline which is why I feel people pick over sports over it.

Discipline is making the weight. Then you enjoy yourself after. Though I think you were saying if you keep up your post fight habits for a long time until you really get out of shape? I guess I understand that.

After a tournament though, like the one I have coming up, I'd like to take 1 week or 2 off and just eat and do anything I want (obviously not drugs or anything like that lol just eating pizza and dancing at clubs and what not). I see nothing wrong with that. I'll probably gain about 10-15 pounds. It comes off like nothing.

Anything more than a few weeks off can be dangerous though lol.

i was once a pro boxer (many moons ago) and trust me, when you gotta diet and train 2X day, you start to have dreams of eating ice cream, burgers etc. I walked around at about 163lbs and fought at 147lbs. took me 4 weeks to get down.

but i never drank alcohol or did drugs. food was my evil.

                    Thank you, my point exactly.

Right now, as we speak, I'm dreaming of pizza and oreo milkshakes! Then when you start getting them, it's not easy to stop. I can see why some people put on so much weight after fights.
