Erik Morales had a similar moment in the 2nd Pacquiao fight I believe, when he was off balance and grasped the rope to regain his balance.
Well, i believed his asking our opinion, not whether the ref calls it or not. The judges did not give JMM a 10-8 on round 8 but you see certain membes here posting about it.

Packy was just lucky in that round

JMM would've whooped Freddie instead if not for the ref

Well then, in my own personal opinion ; no, it should not be a 10-7 round.

I rarely ever count a fighter grabbing a rope as a knockdown because that's not the rule.

The rule is that if the ropes are clearly holding the fighter in question up, and therefore preventing what would've clearly been a knockdown without them, then that is what is scored as a knockdown.

Not if the fighter is off balance and momentarily grasps a rope to regain his stability.

As somebody already mentioned ; a clear example of this is Vazquez/Marquez 3.

Rafael was clearly going down there. Not only did him falling backwards into the rope save him from tasting canvas ; but he also grabbed ahold of the rope for dear life and held on for much longer than Marquez or Morales did against Pacquiao.

I respect your opinion. But do you think Marquez would have gone down if he didn't hold/grab the ropes?

i scored it 9-8 for pacquiao.

8 for marquez for the kd but marquez schooled pacquiao in that round so i only gave pacquiao 9.

              Hard to say.

It certainly looked as if he would've went down without them, but I've seen many fighters get knocked off balance in a very similar fashion and use their natural athletic talents to recover from it and prevent a knockdown.

Kind of like what Mayweather did when Hatton caught him off balance early in their fight ; it looked as if Floyd would go down but he used his legs and natural talents to ride it out and recover without having to hit the deck.

Hopkins also did something similar in the first Taylor fight.

James Toney tried to do it against Roy Jones but he just couldn't pull it off.

Just watched the 3rd round a couple of times. From observing it, JMM first grab the ropes as he was falling down then planted his left foot, thus not going down. If he didn't grab the ropes, he wouldn't be able to properly plant hsi left foot. I believed this would have resulted JMM going down to the canvas. Even if it was a second before the bell, we have seen situations were a knockdown happen before the bell ring and the ref called it.

don't you know jmm "schools" and "embarasses" pacquiao throughout the entire fights they've had?

4 knockdowns and the other 4 times jmm has gone on ***** street is just a fluke.

It's entirely possible that Marquez would've tasted canvas for a second time there.

I just didn't score it that way, but I could see other's scoring it 10-7 based on that because I was one of the ones who scored round 8 10-8 for Marquez.

Either way the fight was close as hell, and still would've been close as hell had you credited marquez a 10-8 n the 8th, or Pacquiao a 10-7 in this round.

Love these guys, and I love watching them fight.

You couldn't ask for two better examples of fighters who make the sport as amazing as it is.
