I've seen Campillo and he is an okay fighter, but he isn't notable on the global scene. It is far more likely that Shumenov just generated hype with his aggressive matchmaking that was above his actual ability level.

The thing is none of the other opponents really tested him.

They were good names but Montell didn't win a round,neither did Mendoza and Byron had 14 lbs on him and still got knocked out.

Campillo was the only won who actually tried to win and could.

cant bash him for fighting for a champion ship at only 8-0. from the little i have seen on shumenov, he looks really good early on but tires easily. he should be back tho, hes only 8-1 and has the skills.

Spanish boxer Gabriel Campillo successfully defended his WBA World light heavyweight title. The Spaniard managed to win the title at his opponent’s backyard when he beat Hugo Hernan Garay in Argentina and now retained his belt also away from home in Sport Complex “Daulet”, Astana, Kazakhstan. It seems Campillo used the same tactics he used against Garay.Letting the man punch himself out.

He can bounce back though.

Shumenov seems to be one of those kind of early peak fighters given his style. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of thinking going on behind the punches he throws. He's an exciting guy who fought some good opposition at the right time in his career and the wrong time in their careers. I don't think he can compete with the highest echelon but could do well on the European circuit.

One thing you cannot fault is his business sense; he knows the score and isn't going to play himself out.
