    • my top choices for Cotto to use as sparring (people who may actually do it)

Calderon-awsome prep for speed and footwork. he would help Cotto time that jab and in and out movement

Juan Manuel Lopez-another Rican who might do it out of nationalistic pride. great prep in general as he is a southpaw with good hand speed timing and boxing skill with some pop. same size also as pac

Luis Collazo- again aother rican south paw who is slick and quick with good head movement. I dont pretend to think he fights like Manny but he would be great sparring for the southpaw stance, is probably naturally stronger than Manny and has a good fast straight left.

Viscious Victor Ortiz- If they could get this kid he could really help prepare Cotto for the quickness of hand and foot and has a lot of power so he Cotto could get used to not making careless mistakes or he would have to pay.

Daniel Santos- Hey he a south paw with good boxing skills who resides in Puerto Rico and is probably doing nothing more than sitting around eating potato chips cause he sure as hell aint fighting.

Team Cotto better reach out to as many top quality guys as possible and put Miguel through hell in sparring!

        • I still don't know how people think Calderon is a bad idea. The whole point is to emulate Paq's style, of course he isn't going to do it perfectly but nobody will be able to. Cotto or Manny will never know how each other fight until they step into the ring together, thus, the best thing for them to do is to face people who can emulate their styles best. Calderon is perfect for a few reasons:

          1. No one is going to be as fast or as strong as Paq. If that was the case then there would be another person in the P4P who fights exactly like him.

          2. Paq's greatest asset is his speed. Sure, he has a lot of power as well, but without his speed he doesn't have any power. So you have to neutralize the speed first, its the #1 priority.

          3. Calderon is probably in the Top 10 of fastest fighter in boxing and to add to that he is left handed.

          4. Calderon is also slick, he can slip and avoid punches and again is very fast, which is the entire point. Manny's speed is his biggest threat and thus you need to spar with someone who is very fast as well. But speed isn't enough for Cotto to work on, he needs to work on figuring out how to land with Manny's head movement and slipping/dodging ability. Calderon is a boxer, and as much as people want to say Manny is an attacker he can't be at WW. He has to outbox his opponents and he did just that against DLH and Hatton, he was not forcing the action upon them.

          6. Finally, Manny's power may affect Cotto in the later rounds if Cotto's body punching just doesn't work for whatever reason. However, Cotto has been in there with people far bigger than he is and certainly been in there with harder punchers than Manny. Its funny, everyone is saying how fast and strong manny is, which is fine, but come on people he isn't as strong as Clottey he definitely isn't as strong as Mosley, and he sure as HELL is nowhere near as powerful or aggressive as Margartio. Cotto has had his entire career at 140 and 147 pounds, if he can't handle Manny's power there is no way he would have been able to be to make it this far in his career.

Calderon was schooling the **** out of DLH and Mosley in 2007.

They sparred with him when DLH was traning for the FLoyd fight. And the word is that Mosley and DLH both looked like fools when sparring him!!!!!!

Anyways this is a good choice or Cotto, so he can prepare for the speed and the in and out movement.

Cotto should hire also Valero or Judah to get use to the speed and power combo!

                  • For all of you dumb pac nuthuggers and those who think cotto pickin calderon is a bad idea are ****** and should jump out of a plane with no parachute....
1 like the few people on this post that has sense said he didn't pick calderon base on pacquiao power he pick him based on his speed and the southpaw stance

2 its more of a emulation not duplication as in a best impression of manny not actually be him so cotto can come up with some sort of fight plan gettin the timing down for countering a southpaw fighter hint hint wink wink pacquiao

All I'm sayin is pac better watch out for either cotto stiff jab or the left leadin hook cause even though he's an orthadox fighter he's actually left handed

                    • Calderon is too small and has no power. Expect low blows from Cotto before being knocked out.
