didnt read all that. winky was a shoe in for the hall of fame before he even got in the ring against taylor. and as for the last round, like someone said winky did more than taylor. anyone who thinks otherwise just admitted they score fights with their ears and not their eyes.
Winky blew his chance to be a HOFer in the round 12 of the Taylor fight in my view.

imo winky should be in the HOF and he is ahead of guys like gatti, tarver and corrales.
i think winky had a style that suited him for taking on smaller guys like tito, SSM and he would have taken DLH to school.
but when he was against guys who were his size it didn't benefit him so much, the vargas fight was no robbery. winky needs to get over his 'im the victim' and admit that it was a close fight that he could have taken if hed fought a smarter fight. the schooling pwill gave him counts heavily against him but i think winky will find himself in the HOF one of these days.Comment

Winky was my fave fighter before the imergance of the Punisher & his hiatus!!But I will say I don't know if he'll be in the hof,I think he should,Winky is known to any real fan of the sport as 1 of the best defensive masters of his generation!!Plus I believe that if he had fought B-Hop at 160,he may have beaten him!!Comment

I thought I'd make this thread because there is another thread talking about the best wins on P-Will's resume. I'm not a fan of Winky at all because his style wasn't my cup of tea. But I have to give credit where credit is due. The two wins over Mosley are great wins. And I thought he got robbed against Vargas and he beat some other good contenders at 154 like a prime Branco McKart and JC Candelo. But if you really dig at his resume, he doesn't equate to a Hall of Fame fighter because he didn't take the bull by the horns in certain situations.
The fact that he acted like a diva when it came to negotiating certain fights hurts his credibility. And another point I want to make is that his win over Trinidad is very overrated. A lot of people may not know this. But Ricardo Mayorga got injured in a car accident in the lead up to his fight with Tito, and it gave the false illusion that Trinidad was back to form after B-Hop destroyed him. And the fact that Winky got in the ring with Hopkins and Williams is something that he deserves credit for. But he didn't win any of those fights regardless of how competitive the Hopkins fight was. I think if those two guys fought in a prime-for-prime match up Hopkins would've beat him a lot more convincingly than what he did.
And the last point I want to make is his fight with Jermaine Taylor for the Middleweight title. A lot of people think he got robbed in that fight, but I didn't see it that way. According to compubox they both landed the exact same amount of power punches even though Winky landed more jabs. And I had the fight even going into the last round and Winky just totally bottled it. If he would've won that very last round and left questions unanswered about whether that fight was really a robbery, he would be a HOFer in my book. But that one bone-headed decision is why to me, he is a case of close, but no cigar.
Now by today's standards he probably will go into the HOF since guys like Corrales and Gatti will get in and he was a way better fighter than both of those guys. But he came up short against the very best opponents he fought. That is not a criteria that should get you in the HOF. That's the reason why I wouldn't let Gatti in there either.Comment
