No, Kevin I think your wrong and here is why.....people don't remember someone's glossy record, fans remember the memories that the fighter gave them no matter what their records were. Think Gatti and Ward, fans will always remember those two not because they necessarily dominated opponents or won all of the time we know they didn't but they gave fans their moneys worth and left them with something to remember which is why they always will be. Joe, though a very skilled fighter didn't do that and will be forgotten in about 20 years.Comment

Demise, i said that to basically point out that it could have been worse for Calzaghe. I do realize that the 4 guys i mentioned are indeed ATG's.
2501, you are a failure at life. Period.Comment

Well if Calzaghe did have 2 losses on his record, one against Roy and the other against Hopkins..
Where does that put him?Comment

That's true, Mike. But you know people forgot that Mairciano beat up an old past prime Louis. They have forgiven him already. Look at ESPN, The Ring, etc. placing Rocky Marciano real high because of his undefeated record.
Not now, but maybe 30-50 years from now I think Calzaghe will be forgiven by fans.Comment

Maybe if you live in his neighborhoodYep.
Statistics play a big part in any sports.
Years from now, fans will see the 46-0 record and say 'wow what a beast this guy was'.
No one will yap about his quality of opposition.
Look at Hagler fighting a SRL who came out of retirement and who's last fight i believe was at WW? if i'm not mistaken.
You see everyone praising Hagler nowadays. Hearns fought midgets his whole life and he's praised too.
Duran lost 16 times and he's looked at as a boxing god by many.
I believe that Joe Calzaghe will be forgiven for going through life and death with a 43 year old Bernard Hopkins, and using a 39 year old Past prime Roy Jones Jr as his career defining fight.
Besides, staying undefeated in 46 fights it's not an easy task. He'll be ****ed on today but i predict that over the years, fans will say 'man if only there were more fighters like Joe Calzaghe'.
I'm sure it has happened in the past, where a fighter gets ****ted on while they're active then all of a sudden in 20 years they are seen as the saviors of Boxing.

I can't speak for England or anywhere in Europe but he was just introduced to the American fan base and then just left without much of an impression.....if you mention Joe to someone where you are in NY in about 10 years ppl are going to be like "who"?That's true, Mike. But you know people forgot that Mairciano beat up an old past prime Louis. They have forgiven him already. Look at ESPN, The Ring, etc. placing Rocky Marciano real high because of his undefeated record.

Hmm, well you can always make a strong case for his 20 title defenses at Super Middleweight. And die hard Calzaghe fans can bring up how Calzaghe was past prime because he was 35 years old(no spring chicken). I don't know, but oh well he beat them both so this scenario goes out the window.Comment
